Nearly 24 years after the iconic film Thirteen Ghosts, speculation about a potential prequel series has recently gained traction across social media platforms. The conversation kicked off when a post by Yoda Bby Aby circulated, showcasing a promotional poster for the rumored series. However, it’s important to clarify that these claims are unfounded.
On April 23, 2025, Yoda Bby Aby shared a post featuring an intriguing image titled Thirteen Ghost Stories. This post prominently displayed a logo for Paramount+, suggesting an imminent release in July of the same year on the streaming service.
The post also included the following description:
“Dive into the chilling world of Thirteen Ghost Stories, a new 13-episode anthology series on Paramount+, where each episode unveils the haunting backstory of a ghost from the original Thirteen Ghosts film, reimagined by original director Steve Beck.”
Additionally, the post hinted at a talented cast and the intention to adopt a format reminiscent of the acclaimed horror anthology series American Horror Story, which airs on FX.
However, it’s crucial to note that Yoda Bby Aby’s announcement was intended as satire, clearly stated in their bio, which highlights that the “page is 100% satire.” To this point, there has been no official confirmation from Paramount+ or director Steve Beck regarding a prequel series.
Updates on the Thirteen Ghosts TV Series: What We Know So Far
The supernatural horror film that debuted in 2001 has developed a dedicated following over the years. While no sequel had been announced, in August 2023, Dark Castle Entertainment revealed plans to adapt the film into a television series.
According to a report by CBR, Patrick Mediate, co-founder of Primordial Pictures, along with SFX supervisor Aaron McLane and Ashley Robinson, known for Fear the Walking Dead, were in talks to present a proposal to Sony Pictures Television. This new adaptation was said to consist of 13 episodes.
The creators aimed to incorporate various elements from the 1960 version of Thirteen Ghosts. CBR provided a detailed description, stating that the upcoming series is a “re-imagining” of the original film, adding:
“The ghost stories within each episode will have their own stylistic look and feel that will be explored and influenced by each individual director. This makes our ghost vignettes stand out stylistically as they set the theme for each episode.”
Earlier this month, Dread Central reported developments regarding the pitch for the series, revealing images that illustrated the show’s concept, which is set to focus on different ghosts inspired by the 2001 film.
CBR also mentioned that engagement with viewers would be enhanced through a mobile app designed to explore additional ghost stories. However, updates regarding this project have been scarce since then.
The original film, while a product of Dark Castle Entertainment, encountered mixed reviews upon its release, despite featuring notable talents such as Tony Shalhoub, Embeth Davidtz, Matthew Lillard, Shannon Elizabeth, and others.
