On March 29, 2025, G-Dragon captured public attention with his striking performance at the Übermensch concert, held at Goyang Stadium in Gyeonggi Province. This highly anticipated event marked his return to the stage after an eight-year hiatus since his last solo tour, the 2017 World Tour Act III: M.O.T.T.E.
During this electrifying concert, G-Dragon showcased his latest single, POWER, alongside beloved tracks like Crooked and TAKE ME. The elaborate stage design, captivating choreography, and impressive visual effects contributed to a memorable spectacle.
However, the performance drew a mixed bag of reactions from attendees. Some fans expressed concerns over G-Dragon’s vocal delivery, citing instances where his live vocals seemed strained and occasionally out of tune. Observers remarked that he appeared to lean heavily on pre-recorded backing tracks, opting to perform only certain parts live.
“Genuinely asking why he doing this concert like this… Different techniques can be used. Is he high? Seriously if it done by female idols everyone in that nation bvlly them to de@th. Lsrfm went through a whole year h@te train. Really i don’t understand their taste,”an X user wrote.
The reaction among fans has been notably polarized. While some viewed his performance critically, others rushed to defend G-Dragon’s efforts under challenging circumstances, emphasizing the significant chill in the air as temperatures plummeted to -2° Celsius.
“I think his voice has gone unfortunately, he sounds okay on the album but I think he struggles to do live,”a fan remarked.
“Imagine if it was a hybe group,”another commented.
“Fans expected better from G-Dragon, but live performances can be unpredictable. Hopefully, he improves and delivers stronger vocals next time,”one user noted.
In contrast, many attendees defended the rapper, citing the extreme weather conditions and expressing that the overall experience was enjoyable despite the challenges.
“Mind u it was -2°C & he was literally wearing thin clothes the entire time & u could physically see his breath it was that cold lol,”a supporter explained.
“The weather was extremely bad but yeah haters gonna hate. Stay mad,”another fan added.
“Hmm…I wonder how many people complaining actually went to the concert. From what I’ve seen, those that went, enjoyed it,”an attendee asserted.
Concert Delayed Due to Severe Weather Conditions
The Übermensch concert faced a brief delay on March 29 due to adverse weather conditions. Originally scheduled to commence at 6:30 PM KST, the start time was pushed back by 30 minutes, prioritizing the safety of concertgoers and the overall production.
This postponement was prompted by sudden cold spells and deteriorating weather, which posed challenges for the performers and audience alike.
In the lead-up to the concert, devastating wildfires erupted in North Gyeongsang Province on March 21, leading to substantial loss of life and displacement. By March 26, the fires had claimed 28 fatalities, including first responders, and forced over 37,800 residents to evacuate their homes. Thousands of soldiers were dispatched to aid firefighters and control the blazes.
Remarkably, the wildfires consumed over 48,000 hectares of land, damaging historic sites such as the 600-year-old Hahoe Folk Village and a 1,300-year-old Buddhist temple, Gousna, despite some successful preservation efforts.
In an act of compassion, G-Dragon pledged 300 million KRW toward disaster relief, with proceeds from his concert tour redirected to the Hope Bridge Korea Disaster Relief Association.
Numerous K-pop artists have also stepped forward to contribute to relief efforts. Notable donations include BTS’s Jungkook, who provided 1 billion KRW (approximately $680,000) to the same cause, along with contributions from members SUGA, j-hope, and RM, each donating 100 million KRW. The group SEVENTEEN collectively donated an additional 1 billion KRW to assist those affected.
