In a recent interview with US Weekly, Tyler Hilton, known for his role in One Tree Hill, discussed his unexpected cameo in Taylor Swift’s iconic music video, “Teardrops On My Guitar.”This revelation came as Hilton promoted his new children’s book, shedding light on a chance encounter with the pop superstar that dates back to 2007.
Hilton recounted how he first came to know Swift after mentioning her song “Tim McGraw”in a magazine interview. Her manager reached out to him, paving the way for an invitation to one of Swift’s performances at a country bar in Southern California. On stage, Swift demonstrated her boldness by asking him to star in her upcoming video. Hilton shared:
“[She was] a very forward 15-year-old. She literally corners me on stage and goes, ‘I didn’t want to ask you backstage ’cause I was afraid you’d say no, but would you be in my next music video?’ That’s how I ended up in the Teardrops On My Guitar music video.”
Following their initial meeting, Swift would often invite Hilton to open for her at her shows as her fame skyrocketed. He remarked:
“And after that she was like, ‘Oh, I’m doing some shows, would you want to come open for me?’ And she just kept getting bigger and bigger.”
Insights on Taylor Swift’s Music Journey

During the interview, Hilton reflected on a memorable moment from their early friendship. He described an intimate experience where Swift played him “White Horse,”a song that had yet to be released. He noted Swift’s youthful charm and whimsical nature, likening her to a “princess, fairy, unicorn girl.”He stated:
“She was playing me songs in her bedroom out of her diary for her second record. She was playing me White Horse, and it was crazy because I’m in her bedroom, and I’m like, ‘Whoa, this girl is actually, like, princess, fairy, unicorn girl.'”
Hilton praised Swift’s authenticity, attributing her sustained success in the music industry to her heartfelt and genuine personality. He described her as both charming and relatable, remarking:
“It’s not an act — she actually had her songs written in, like, a fluffy diary and she is that nerd, you know what I mean? That’s what’s so sweet about her and I think is responsible for her longevity — it’s not an act.”
He further highlighted how endearing her “nerdy”persona was, recalling how she would enthusiastically share songs from her diary. Hilton reminisced about the collective admiration everyone had for Swift, stating:
“We all collectively thought she was so adorable. It is like when the nerdy girl in high school becomes famous, she is that earnest. She’s like, ‘Do you wanna hear another song outta my diary?’ I’m like, ‘Oh, OK.’ And they were all really good, but it was just like, ‘This is so funny.'”
As Hilton prepares for the release of his children’s book, Daddy: Live in Concert, on April 8, 2023, fans of both him and Taylor Swift can appreciate this insight into their unique friendship and the vibrant beginnings of Swift’s illustrious career.
