Scott M. Gimple, the chief architect behind *The Walking Dead* series, envisions a revitalized future for one of the franchise’s most beloved spin-offs. This revival comes in response to fan enthusiasm for further exploration of this post-apocalyptic universe. Originally aired from 2010 to 2022, *The Walking Dead* concluded without a twelfth season, leaving many narrative threads untied. Instead, the series spawned a number of spin-offs.
Although *The Ones Who Live* achieved only one season, other series such as *Dead City* and *Daryl Dixon* are thriving, each confirmed for two seasons. Meanwhile, the original spin-off *Fear The Walking Dead* concluded its journey in November 2023, and *The Walking Dead: World Beyond* was restricted to two seasons. Despite the varied fates of these projects, AMC continues to invest in the *Walking Dead* legacy, with four new projects in development that underscore the franchise’s potential longevity.
Gimple’s Aspirations for *Tales of the Walking Dead*

In an interview with The Direct, Gimple expressed a strong desire to broaden the scope of *Tales of the Walking Dead*, should more episodes become feasible. He emphasized that, while immediate plans to resume production do not exist, he firmly believes fans would relish the opportunity to reconnect with characters and storylines that have yet to be fully explored.
Gimple stated, “I’m desperate to do more of those. We don’t have imminent plans to do it, but I’m constantly, constantly, constantly bringing it up. It’s a more challenging show because of the variety because you’re starting at zero every episode. So that’s one thing that’s sort of slowing it down a little bit. But I always keep it in the mix as a possibility. We can only put out so many Walking Dead shows, Walking Dead hours a year. But to me, I think that’s a layup.”
He continued, “I think everybody wants to see more stories of it and I think we totally just scratched the surface. And on top of that, I really want to see more of the characters from the past and I know the audience does too. Or things that were referred to in the past that we never saw. So, I’m determined to have it come back and it’s a very easy show to come back. There’s no… you know, we didn’t end on a cliffhanger. So I think it’s a possibility.”
Back in September 2020, AMC announced the creation of an episodic anthology series set in *The Walking Dead* universe, officially launching *Tales of the Walking Dead* in 2022 with six richly crafted episodes. As of 2023, Gimple is reportedly overseeing the project titled *More Tales from the Walking Dead Universe*. Although it remains uncertain if a second season is imminent, his recent comments suggest a strong openness to further development.
For fans speculating about the long-awaited *Walking Dead* film—initially intended to form a trilogy centered around Rick and Michonne—Gimple indicated that such prospects are “probably less likely.”The rapid expansion of *The Walking Dead* universe into numerous spin-off series makes the possibility of another season of *Tales of the Walking Dead* a distant plan, especially with *Dead City* Season 2 set to premiere on May 4, 2025, and *Daryl Dixon* Season 3 arriving in the fall.
