Venom 3: Release date, cast, plot & more

Tom Hardy is back, baby! But, so is his symbiote friend, which means plenty of chaos to come. Here’s what we know about the Venom 3 release date, including cast updates and plot rumors.

In the darkest corner of the superhero world, far away from Marvel and their bright-eyed Spider-Man, lives Venom. Somehow, the Spider-Man villain is about to complete his own trilogy of movies, and he’s done it all without the web-slinger.

After the very literal carnage of the second instalment, and a brief cameo in the post-credits scene of Spider-Man: No Way Home, Eddie Brock and Venom have some unfinished business to attend to in this upcoming threequel.

So, what’s going to happen next, who’s joining the adventure, and when exactly is the Venom 3 release date? We’ve got all the answers you need.

What is the Venom 3 release date?

Venom 3 will hit theaters worldwide on November 8, 2024.

The film was originally supposed to release on July 11, 2024 as the movie’s principal photography began in June 2023, but production was shut down by the SAG-AFTRA strike. Tom Hardy confirmed the movie had resumed production following the Hollywood strikes in an Instagram post back in November 2023.

Venom 3 will conclude Sony Pictures’ Spidey-adjacent films coming out in 2024, with Kraven the Hunter arriving on August 30, 2024, and Madame Web in theaters now.

Venom 3 cast: Who’s returning, and are there any new characters?

Tom Hardy is currently the only returning cast member that has been confirmed for Venom 3, but we know he will be joined by a couple of new faces—Juno Temple and Chiwetel Ejiofor.

It’s possible that Stephen Graham could return as Detective Patrick Mulligan and, given his fate in the preceding movie, we think he will become Toxin. We will hopefully see Michelle Williams return, too, as we’d love to see more of her as She-Venom.

Speaking to Digital Spy about the return, Hardy said: “These things [usually] come in threes. If there’s a new one—and they depend heavily on the success of each individual one, so you can’t count on them ever happening again—everyone has got to be as if it was the last one.

“But I think it’s really important, if you go into something, thinking that one, two, and three are the same… the same story, the same film. So that you don’t surprise yourself by being caught out by suddenly having to do a third from nowhere. There’s got to be some continuity.”

Ted Lasso star Juno Temple has joined the cast, though her role is unknown at this point. Similarly, Chiwetel Ejiofor—whom most of you will know as Karl Mordo in Doctor Strange—is on board for Venom 3, but we are not sure what role he will play yet, either.

Venom 3: Is there a trailer?

There isn’t a trailer for Venom 3 yet, but we’ll be sure to include it once Sony gives fans a first look at Eddie Brock’s next adventure. Historically, the first trailer for Venom 2 arrived five months before the movie’s release date, so we can probably expect a Venom 3 trailer in June 2024.

Venom 3 plot: What will it be about?

Where Venom 3 will take Eddie Brock is unknown, though we wager the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home will factor into Tom Hardy’s third outing in some way.

Having been transported to another dimension, albeit momentarily, we would find it a little bit odd if this wasn’t at least mentioned in the next Venom movie. However, you probably shouldn’t get your hopes up for a Venom versus Spider-Man showdown.

In an interview with Screen Rant, director Andy Serkis said: “I know everyone is desperate for Venom to meet Spider-Man… But I think there’s real mileage in some of the other supervillains that reside in Ravencroft. There’s such fertile ground to be uncovered there. That would be the sandbox I’d be really interested in playing in. Who’s lurking in there that could break out?”

Who knows, maybe even Morbius will have some impact on this story (please, don’t).

What has happened in the Venom movies so far?

Venom (2018)

In the first entry of Marvel’s anti-hero franchise, Eddie Brock is relieved of his duties as an investigative journalist after attempting to malign tech mogul, Carlton Drake (Riz Ahmed).

Drake’s nefarious experiments with symbiotes lead to Brock’s encounter with Venom, an outer-space organism that needs a human host to survive. The pair work together in a bid to take down Drake for his crimes, while learning they’re more alike than they thought in the process. After the dust has settled, Brock visits serial killer Cletus Kassidy (Woody Harrelson) in prison, though he might regret it.

Venom: Let There Carnage (2021)

Shortly after the events of Venom, Eddie Brock is still in contact with Cletus Kassidy. Giving Brock newsworthy features to write about his crimes, Kassidy later attempts to attack Brock, prompting Venom to protect him.

Having revealed that Brock is harboring his own secret and getting a taste of his blood, Kassidy later unleashes the deranged symbiote Carnage into the world. Kassidy’s troubled past catches up with him, as childhood flame Frances Berrison (AKA Shriek) aids him on his rampage.

Detective Patrick Mulligan (Stephen Graham) is caught in the crossfire as Venom defeats Carnage, though it is suggested Mulligan may embark on a symbiotic transformation of his own, possibly becoming Toxin in a future film.

Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021)

Before he sets off to track down Spider-Man himself, Brock is transported back to the Sony Pictures universe, following Doctor Strange’s incantation to restore the multiverse (for now).
