Universal’s president of domestic theatrical distribution, Jim Orr, took the occasion to commend Nolan’s “visionary take”on the classic narrative. He confidently stated, “We know this film will be a once-in-a-generation cinematic masterpiece that Homer himself would be very proud of.” This ambitious project aims to bring Homer’s timeless epic to life on the big screen, utilizing cutting-edge technology to enhance the viewing experience.
A Glimpse into the Film’s Technology and Release
Described by Universal as a “mythic action epic,” The Odyssey is set to be shot across various global locations and will utilize groundbreaking IMAX film technology. This marks the first time that Homer’s foundational saga will be presented on IMAX screens, with a wide release scheduled for July 17, 2026.

Nolan has assembled an impressive cast for this epic tale, which features notable stars such as Matt Damon, who takes on the role of King Odysseus.
