Warning: Spoilers ahead for The Wheel of Time Season 3, Episode 7. While other character arcs remain unresolved, the latest episode of The Wheel of Time could easily have served as a season finale. In this thrilling installment, pivotal events unfold for Perrin, a major character in Robert Jordan’s series, as the narrative returns to its roots in Emond’s Field, located in the Two Rivers. The episode features an intense three-way conflict among the residents of Two Rivers, the fervent Whitecloaks, and the savage Trollocs, effectively illustrating the perilous stakes and moral complexities leading up to the Last Battle.
Key figures in the climactic Battle of Emond’s Field are the Aes Sedai, Alanna, and her Warder, Maksim. Throughout Season 3, Alanna struggles with the loss of her other Warder, Ihvon. As they unite to defend the Two Rivers from impending disaster, the dynamic between Alanna and Maksim is explored in depth. Played by Priyanka Bose and Taylor Napier, respectively, these characters have been given significant narrative development in the adaptation, making them standout figures in the show.
ScreenRant recently conducted interviews with both Bose and Napier about their experiences during the shooting of this pivotal episode and the preceding ones. The actors delved into themes of grief, motivations for their characters, and the crucial restoration of the bond between Maksim and Alanna. Bose also expressed her appreciation for the overwhelming support she has received from fans, highlighting the importance of community in her portrayal of Alanna.
The Emotional Journey of Alanna and Maksim
“She’s Lost the Love of Her Life. I’ve Lost the Love of My Life”

In a heart-wrenching moment from Season 2, Alanna’s Warder Ihvon sacrifices himself to save her from a lethal threat posed by the Black Ajah’s Liandrin. This tragic loss creates a rift between Alanna and Maksim as Season 3 progresses. Napier shared insights into how this grief affects Maksim’s perspective: “Not only am I dealing with grief, but I’m also confronted by someone I trust who isn’t fully transparent with me.”
Napier elaborated on the emotional weight carried by both characters, explaining, “She’s lost the love of her life. I’ve lost the love of my life. From Maksim’s viewpoint, Alanna doesn’t seem upset enough about it.” For Napier, portraying Maksim’s varied responses to grief provided rich material to explore. “When playing a character in mourning,” he noted, “one cannot solely express sadness. There are moments of resilience and desires for hope.”
Bose echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the depth of the relationships in The Wheel of Time. “The exploration of diverse identities, including queer relationships and non-binary representation, is what makes this show significant to me,” she stated.
Maksim’s Character Growth by Episode 7
“There’s a Real Stepping Into His New Responsibility”

Despite his struggle with Ihvon’s death, Maksim’s resolve hardens as he witnesses Alanna intentionally putting herself in peril. Napier described Maksim’s internal struggle: “He realizes he is the only one willing to shield her. He recognizes that he must intervene—either save her from her reckless behavior or stand by as she charges headlong into danger.”
However, this realization requires significant personal growth for Maksim. “This season showcases his transition; before, everything was relatively easy-going,” Napier explained. “Now, the reality of the Forsaken’s presence and the weight of the Dragon Reborn’s destiny impose real challenges he never anticipated.” He added that, despite his reservations regarding the Dragon Reborn or the Amyrlin, his motivation revolves solely around Alanna: “My love for Ihvon and Alanna drives my fight; I’m not concerned about anyone else.”
Napier revealed that one of his favorite scenes from the episode encapsulates this turning point for Maksim: “It’s the moment he steps up to Alanna with figs. His determination is evident, and it’s in that moment he acknowledges, ‘I made a mistake. I want to reconnect with you and face this together anew.'” He faced the challenge of portraying a Warder who carries stories without being the primary protagonist, but in Episode 7, “Maksim finds his voice effectively,” Napier concluded.
Fan Support Informing Bose’s Portrayal
“The Fans Are Providing Me More Character Development for Alanna Than Anything Else”

During a discussion about fan interactions, Bose shared how social media has become a vital tool for her character’s development. “It’s fostered an enriching environment for me; actors often isolate themselves,” she remarked. “I genuinely believe fans contribute significantly to my understanding of Alanna.”
Feeling somewhat overwhelmed by the depth of Robert Jordan’s expansive series, which boasts 14 primary novels, Bose confided, “Reading the fan feedback reassures me that my performance resonates. Their appreciation not only boosts my confidence but reinforces my dedication to this role.”
Subtle Hints About Season 4
“Nothing Has Been Confirmed Regarding The Show’s Renewal or Cancellation”

In a candid moment, Bose mentioned, “I would miss this series deeply if it doesn’t proceed to Season 4.” When prompted for more details, she coyly stated, “I can’t share anything right now,” while praising the current season as “exceptional.” She concluded with a tantalizing hint: “I promise you will enjoy this season immensely.”
Napier shared a similar sentiment, conveying hopefulness: “Fingers crossed for the future. I’m proud of what we’ve created so far, and I’m eager to continue this journey.”
