Ubisoft has consistently demonstrated its commitment to incorporating meaningful historical events within its gameplay. The Assassin’s Creed series has seen tremendous success through this approach, and with Shadows, players will revisit the Sengoku period, known more for its conflict than for social advancements.

Promotional material for the game hints at an exciting historical landscape, showcasing notable figures like Oda Nobunaga, a significant feudal lord involved in endeavors to unify Japan. Historical accounts reveal that Nobunaga took in an African individual named Yasuke, who would become a renowned samurai. In a thrilling twist, Yasuke serves as one of the two main playable characters in Assassin’s Creed Shadows.

Players will also encounter members of the Shinobi clan, who opposed Nobunaga’s mission. Throughout his campaign, Nobunaga battled multiple clans resisting his ambitions to establish order. Another playable character, Naoe, embarks on a quest for vengeance, forging an unexpected alliance with Yasuke. Together, their complementary skills will enhance gameplay and storytelling.
