Understanding Artian Weapons in Monster Hunter Wilds

The world of Monster Hunter Wilds features an extensive array of weapons, each with its unique attributes. Among them, the Artian line stands out for its remarkable adaptability, offering players customization options that no other weapon class provides.

Every type of weapon in MH Wilds has an Artian counterpart. Unlike standard weapon crafting, players don’t need to hunt down a specific monster to acquire the necessary materials for these weapons. This guide will delve into the essential aspects of Artian weapons, explaining how to obtain them, their distinctive features, and upgrade methods.

Updated April 7, 2025: Our guide on MH Wilds Artian Weapons has been enhanced to include valuable insights on securing Artian gear, crafting optimal weapon rolls, and providing solid recommendations for various Artian weapons. Notably, the mechanics of Artian weapons remain unchanged following the Title Update 1 patch, preserving established practices in this weapon category.

Artian Weapons are uniquely modifiable weapons that players can create after successfully hunting their first Tempered monster in MH Wilds. These weapons boast a distinctive modular design — when forging an Artian weapon, players can determine the weapon’s damage output, Affinity rating, and elemental damage type.

After defeating your first Tempered monster, the option to craft Artian Weapons will appear on Gemma’s crafting interface. Players can create their desired Artian weapon, provided they have sufficient Weapon Shards (Blades, Discs, and Tubes). These shards are the foundational materials required for crafting, and they can be acquired by hunting additional Tempered monsters.

Artian Weapons of Rarity 8 can surpass many traditional weapons forged from monster components. This is largely due to their three Level 3 Decoration Slots and the potential for stat enhancements through Reinforcement (details on this process will follow).

Crafting Artian Weapons

MH Wilds Artian Weapon Crafting

Once you have gathered the necessary materials, visit Gemma and select the option to Forge Artian Weapons. You will be prompted to choose the type of weapon you wish to create, and then you can view all the Artian Weapon Shards you have accumulated.

The number and type of components required vary depending on the chosen Artian weapon. For instance, crafting a Longsword necessitates one of each material, while Dual Blades require two Blades and one Tube.

Each weapon part comes with specific Elemental and Infusion properties, which highly influence the final attributes of the crafted weapon:

  • Your weapon will inflict Elemental damage if two or more parts have matching Elemental damage types.
  • The weapon’s Attack and Affinity will vary based on how many parts have Attack/Affinity Infusions.
  • If there are no matching Element types, the weapon will solely deal raw physical damage.

The preview of your selected weapon components will appear on the side of the screen. Players are free to experiment with different parts, but once the crafting process is complete, modifications aren’t possible, so choose wisely.

Initially, all Artian Weapons are Rarity 6; however, players can access higher-rarity options by utilizing Rusted and Ancient Weapon Shards, which become available after reaching Hunter Rank 30 and 40, respectively. Hunting Tempered monsters is crucial to obtain Weapon Shards.

For the best performance, focus on crafting Rarity 8 Artian weapons using Ancient Weapon Shards acquired from difficult apex predators, such as those produced from battles against formidable Tempered monsters like Mizutsune.

Upgrading and Reinforcing Artian Weapons

MH Wilds Artian GS Upgrade

Players cannot convert a Rarity 6 Artian Weapon into a higher tier. Instead, they must forge new ones with Weapon Shards of the same rarity. However, Artian Weapons can be Reinforced using special ores.

To reinforce your weapon, approach Gemma and select the option to Reinforce/Dismantle Artian Weapons. This process is similar to upgrading armor in MH Wilds, but rather than Armor Spheres, players will use rare metals like Oricalcite, obtainable at the smiths in the Everforge. As players reinforce their Artian Weapons, these upgrades can enhance Attack, Affinity, Sharpness, Element, or Defense stats depending on the weapon type.

Farming Oricalcite

The most effective way to collect Oricalcite for upgrading Artian weapons is by melting down unnecessary monster materials in Azuz.

If your inventory is overflowing with monster parts, consider converting these into Oricalcite at the furnace near the Oilwell Basin Base Camp. Materials gathered from apex monsters yield higher points during conversion. When farming for Hunter Symbol 3, if you have no use for the gear of your target monster, this method is particularly beneficial for converting materials into Oricalcite.

Rerolling Artian Weapons

The process of upgrading Artian weapons isn’t as random as it might seem. Players can utilize a strategy involving unwanted weapon parts and save reforming to achieve a perfectly rolled Artian weapon.

  1. Save your game.
  2. Craft an Artian weapon using undesirable parts to create a placeholder weapon.
  3. Max out the upgrade level of this weapon.
  4. If you receive unsatisfactory Reinforcement stats, dismantle the weapon.
  5. Save the game again.
  6. Repeat these steps until you achieve favorable Reinforcement stats.
  7. If successful with a junk Artian weapon, reload your last save.
  8. Craft a new Artian weapon, incorporating your desired components.
  9. Upgrade this new weapon to its maximum level.

The ideal stats for a weapon will depend on individual playstyles, but typically, high Raw Attack stats are preferred. For bowguns, securing one or two magazine upgrades can also prove advantageous.
