Jung Joon Young has been officially released from prison after serving his sentence of five years due to the “KakaoTalk chatrooms”incident, which was part of the infamous 2019 “Burning Sun Scandal.”
Jung Joon Young Released from Prison After 5 Years, Netizens React to Updates
On March 19, Korean news outlet News1 reported that Jung Joon Young had been officially released from the Mokpo Prison Center, in Jeollanam-do, at 5 a.m., KST.
According to the photos online, the former singer was shown exiting the establishment dressed in black, including a hat, a pair of glasses, and a mask, covering his appearance. With Jung Joon Young released, all the attention is focused on his next move or activity.


Jung Joon Young once declared that he would stop all his entertainment activities after the sexual assault allegations were made. “I admit all my sins,”Jung Joon Young stated.
In September 2020, Jung Joon Young, along with Choi Jonghoon, both received their prison sentences from the Supreme Court of Korea due to charges of gang rape.

Park Sang Ok, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court’s Second Division, dismissed Jung Joon Young and Choi Jonghoon’s appeal during their second trial.
This led Choi Jonghoon to receive a prison sentence of two years and six months, while Jung Joon Young, who was charged with sexually assaulting an intoxicated woman, as well as illegally filming and distributing inappropriate videos of women, was given five years in prison.

Initially in November 2019, Jung Joon Young’s sentence formerly had six years, while Choi Jonghoon had five.
Apart from the two convicts, the court also gave four years to “Kwon,”the older brother of SNSD Yuri, together with former Burning Sun employee “Kim”(five years) and agency employee “Heo”(two-year probation). During Jung Joon Young’s testimony, he stated:
“I kneel down and apologize to the women in the video, who were forced to face the ugly truth when this incident came to light. I would also like to say this to those were angered, disappointed, and dismayed by my actions.”
