Spectres have recently emerged as a fascinating feature in Path of Exile 2, particularly highlighted in Update 0.2.0. Following an underwhelming initial implementation, these minions have quickly gained popularity among players. Developers at Grinding Gear Games responded positively to community feedback, refining the Spectre mechanic in this subsequent patch.
Players now have the ability to revive defeated enemies from various locations within the game, transforming them into Spectres—loyal minions that can assist in battles against other foes. The revival of each Spectre costs a specific amount of Spirit, and players can create multiple copies of the same Spectre as long as they have sufficient Spirit points.
With a plethora of enemies available for selection in the latest update, players may invest numerous hours trying to determine the optimal Spectre for their playstyle. However, one particular enemy stands out due to its impressive damage output and versatility, excelling in both crowd control and single-target boss encounters.
This article discusses the top Spectre available in Path of Exile 2 Update 0.2.0 and provides insights on how to obtain them in-game.
Top Spectre in Path of Exile 2 Update 0.2.0
Currently, the Vaal Guard Spectre reigns supreme among the minion options. Among the three variations of Vaal Guards, our emphasis will be on the Grenadier type, known for its unique ability to launch both Oil and Fire Grenades at enemies. The other variants include melee and archer classes, but for damage output, the Grenadier takes the lead.
Each of the Grenadier Spectres requires a Spirit investment of 50.

To acquire these Vaal Guard Spectres, navigate to the Cruel version of Act III in the Utzaal past. You will begin encountering these Guards shortly after the first waypoint.
Equipping Spectres in Path of Exile 2

Follow these steps to equip a Spectre in Path of Exile 2:
- Acquire a level 7 Uncut Skill Gem and the Bind Spectre skill.
- Equip the skill and assign it to your active skill bar.
- After defeating the Vaal Guard, walk over its remains and activate the skill.
- A prompt will appear on the ground indicating “Vaal Guard 50 Spirit.”
- Select the prompt to successfully bind the skill to the Vaal Guard.

If you accidentally revive the wrong Vaal Guard, simply drop the skill gem and reload the area to try again.
For optimal performance with the Grenadier Vaal Guard, consider utilizing support gems such as Scattershot, Martial Tempo, Magnified Effect, and Feeding Frenzy for enhanced damage and effectiveness.
