The diverse array of Greatsword skills available in The First Berserker: Khazan offers players an assortment of tactical options, each tailored for specific scenarios. While numerous skills can enhance your gameplay, some stand out as indispensable due to their superior performance. It’s important to note that many of the most effective Greatsword skills originate from the fundamental skill tree, while others require specialized items to unlock their full potential.
When developing a Greatsword build for your upcoming playthrough of The First Berserker: Khazan, it’s essential to determine the style of play that suits you best. Skills range from defensive maneuvers to aggressive techniques, with some emphasizing intricate combo chains. To optimize your Greatsword performance, focus on equipping specific weapons and gear sets that complement these skills.
10 Counterstrike
A Universally Useful Skill For All Occasions

Counterstrike is a standout skill found in the basic Greatsword skill tree of The First Berserker: Khazan. This versatile skill can be employed to push enemies back or, upon a successful Brink Guard, it will deliver a powerful blow while restoring spirit consumed. What’s more, this skill can be charged and utilized while absorbing damage, albeit with reduced effectiveness.
As players advance their Mastery level, Counterstrike receives further enhancements. At level 26, users gain access to both the Chance and Slam upgrades, which provide various effects, although only one can be activated at a time. In general, Slam is often deemed the more advantageous option, but acquiring both and subsequently activating the Level 34 Shift upgrade is highly beneficial, allowing Counterstrike to be used during Swift Attacks and Potent Blows.
9 Giant Hunt
Ideal For Large Enemies

The Giant Hunt skill is a top-tier choice in the Greatsword arsenal, particularly effective against larger adversaries. This skill enables Khazan to leap and deliver a devastating strike on larger opponents, making it especially effective against formidable foes like the notorious Volbaino. As a reliable boss killer, Giant Hunt does not necessitate any specific equipment upgrades.
In addition, it can be enhanced to inflict even more damage for an extra Spirit charge, allowing Khazan to perform an impressive series of acrobatic strikes while charging forward and leaping off the enemy. You’ll find that the Leap upgrade is essential during late-game encounters, particularly against the dragon boss Hismar, who is susceptible to expertly timed Giant Hunt attacks.
8 Mad Dash
A Devourer Of Darkness Specialty

Equipping the Devourer of Darkness Greatsword is mandatory for enhancing your gameplay with the Mad Dash skill. When fully charged, this skill executes two spinning strikes followed by a jump attack, each dealing significant damage and staggering opponents. The skill is unlocked solely with the Devourer of Darkness equipped, making it a remarkable option as you explore various other gear combinations in the game.

Mad Dash is just one of the many benefits provided by the Devourer of Darkness gear set. When fully equipped, this set also applies a poison buff to Brutal Attacks, amplifying poison damage against enemies. Plus, it grants access to the subsequent skill we’ll discuss, Ghost Arm Block: Overpower.
7 Ghost Arm Block: Overpower
Ghost Arm Block Is Essential & OP, Literally

The Ghost Arm Block skill is an essential asset for any Greatsword user, empowering Khazan to perform blocks effectively while simultaneously charging up a potent blow. This skill can gain various enhancements, but perhaps the most advantageous upgrade comes when wearing the Devourer of Darkness set. This complete set allows for Overpower, which enables instantaneous follow-up attacks after executing a Ghost Arm Block, all without depleting any Fury charges if a Fury attack is used.
The outcome of this combination is powerful: players can maintain multiple charged attack sequences if timed correctly while conserving their Fury charges, paving the way for impressive damage outputs through combo chaining.
6 Phantom Judgement
A Soul-Eating Skill For All Weapons

Phantom Judgement is a robust skill available for all three weapon types within Khazan’s arsenal. To access it across any weapon, you must have the complete Soul Eater gear equipped with the selected weapon. While the Soul-Cleaving Greatsword is a popular choice, both the Soul Eater Spear and Dual Wield versions offer comparable functionalities.
You can acquire the Soul Eater Scroll during the “Lacrima”mission located in the Aldevir Central District. This powerful ability resets an enemy’s exhaustion, allowing you to unleash devastating damage while bosses remain incapacitated. For the Greatsword specifically, Phantom Judgement is categorized under Swift Attack skills and is highly recommended for mid-game boss encounters.
5 Volcanic Wrath
A Unique Chaos-Ridden Skill

One of my preferred Greatsword sets within the game is the Chaos-Ridden set because it grants access to the exceptional Volcanic Wrath skill. This ability utilizes a single Fury charge to unleash a chain of up to five strikes, delivering substantial damage. You can continue this chain with further Fury charges, allowing for relentless assault sequences.

Should you opt for a potent blow or run low on charges, a finishing blow ensues, depleting enemy stamina and health at an alarming rate. The Chaos-Ridden Set offers several additional benefits for the Greatsword user, delivering exceptional buffs that will enhance your Brink Guard capabilities. To forge the Chaos-Ridden Set at the blacksmith, you’ll need the Chaos-Ridden Scroll, obtainable during the “Final Conquest”mission at the Abandoned Citadel.
4 Titanic Descent: Eruption
A Neglected Greatsword Unique Banger

Unlocked at Mastery Level 18, Titanic Descent becomes a foundational skill for a driven Greatsword build. This straightforward dash-and-slash attack can significantly enhance your offensive capabilities, especially when you equip the Neglected Greatsword, part of the Ashen Wolf set. Additionally, it allows you to gain nine Netherworld Energy charges, which are beneficial for advanced strategies.
3 Furious Swipe: Agility
A Merciful & Deadly Greatsword Skill

Furious Swipe is an essential addition to any Greatsword skill list and becomes even more valuable with the top-tier Greatsword of Mercy equipped, unlocking the Agility upgrade. This skill enables a dodging slash with a powerful spinning attack. While performing this skill, players gain temporary invincibility, and executing a Brink Dodge restores the spirit consumed.

This ability can initially be upgraded at Mastery Level 18 with the Pursuit skill, allowing for chaining into a dodge attack. However, when paired with the Greatsword of Mercy, you will be able to charge attacks immediately after performing Furious Swipe, and chaining spirit skills doesn’t require additional spirit charges. The Greatsword of Mercy is commonly obtained as a random drop from various enemies throughout the game and is part of the simple three-piece Bishop set.
2 Scorching Earth
A Fugitive Mage Destroyer Skill

Scorching Earth stands out as a unique and explosive skill requiring the Fugitive Mage’s Greatsword. This skill performs a powerful slash that triggers a massive explosion, allowing for a swift follow-up with a Mortal Blow attack through a Potent Blow. This move generates an AoE effect beneath the character while ensuring a considerable swing radius for the attack. The Fugitive Mage’s Greatsword is accessible from Bellerian, one of the more challenging late-game bosses.
Don’t overlook the chance to acquire special crafting materials from Danjin the Jar Enthusiast, who offers three materials of each type for Lacrima. Scorching Earth is just one aspect of the Fugitive Mage set, which bolsters Heart Piercer and Armor Breaker skills. The Fugitive Mage’s Scroll can be found during the “Atlante the Precise”mission located in Wastus Canyon, coupled with the necessity to farm the Hermit’s Enchanted Stone to craft the complete set. However, Scorching Earth requires solely the Greatsword of Mercy, allowing it to work in tandem with various armor sets.
1 Mortal Blow & Inner Fury
Because I Couldn’t Choose Just One

I find it difficult to choose between Mortal Blow and Inner Fury as the premier Greatsword skills in Khazan, as both shine when upgraded, albeit for different reasons. Mortal Blow, especially with the Murderous upgrade, stands out as a highly effective all-purpose damage dealer, especially when paired with a Savage Momentum attack. This upgrade requires the Sentinel’s Greatsword, part of the Crimson Fiend set, which can drop from various foes.
Conversely, Inner Fury showcases its prowess as one of the most effective AoE skills for the Greatsword. When augmented by the Swift upgrade, Inner Fury becomes beneficial in a wide range of scenarios. The blast from beneath deals significant damage to nearby enemies and enhances charge speed for 15 seconds. Moreover, it can be charged to bolster damage, and its basic version becomes available by Mastery Level 18, representing one of the strongest Greatsword skills to acquire early on in the game.
No matter your preferred approach to combat, the diversity of Greatsword skills promises to enhance your gameplay. Whether you favor a defensive stance leveraging Ghost Arm Block or adopt a more aggressive strategy focused on chaining combos, you will find suitable Greatsword skills for every scenario in The First Berserker: Khazan.
