Who is developing Tomb Raider 4?
Crystal Dynamics is currently developing Tomb Raider 4, after having worked on the series since Tomb Raider: Legend back in 2006.
Back in 2022, long-time publisher of the Tomb Raider franchise Square Enix sold the rights to the series to Swedish firm Embracer Group, along with three of its Western development teams Eidos Interactive, Crystal Dynamics, and Square Enix Montreal, for $300 million.
Following this deal, it was announced that Amazon Games would publish a new Tomb Raider game developed by Crystal Dynamics. It will also use Unreal Engine 5.
Tomb Raider 4 plot
The new Tomb Raider game will “unify the timelines” between the Survivor trilogy (2013-2018) and the classic games. This means that the origin story explored in the recent reboots would tie in with the more hardened explorer Lara already has become in the original series.
In February 2024, following the launch of the Tomb Raider 1-3 Remastered collection, Crystal Dynamics revealed a new look at Lara as she will appear in the next game. It appears that she will wear the classic turquoise leotard, plaited hair and dual pistols.
Here is what Lara is expected to look like in the next Tomb Raider game. It also matches her appearance as a guest operator in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 last year.
