During discussions about Evans’s approach in comparison to other action directors he’s worked with, Hardy expressed palpable enthusiasm. He remarked, “I believe Gareth possesses an exceptional knack for capturing action and narrating stories through physical choreography, whether with vehicles or human performers. His storytelling is incredibly vibrant and fresh, resonating with a kinetic energy that is completely compelling.”

Hardy further acknowledged Evans’s ability to weave together action and narrative, placing him alongside legendary directors. He noted, “There’s an invigorating essence in his work that is distinctively alive. I have not encountered anyone quite like him before. Of course, George Miller is an excellent reference point in several respects, and my experiences with Chris Nolan have also been notably dynamic.”
Gareth Evans Shares His Unique Approach to Storytelling
“I didn’t know why he did it at that time…”

Evans articulated his process for achieving the “dynamicism”that Hardy praises by outlining his storytelling methodology: “My creative process often starts with a singular, small idea or image. For instance, I envisioned a scene where a cop scoops cocaine into a coffee cup at a crime scene. It was initially a standalone image, and I didn’t quite understand its context at the time.”
He elaborated, “That was the early seed for the film. Over weeks and months, I began curating playlists and watching films to uncover tones that resonated with that initial idea, which then expanded into themes of parenthood and the relationships between parents and their children.”
HAVOC is set to premiere on Netflix on April 25.
