What Was Astro Royale?
Exploring the Superpowered Yakuza Theme

The plot of Astro Royale revolves around Hibaru Yotsurugi, the sole biological heir of the Yotsurugi Yakuza family. He is drawn into a fierce battle for leadership against his adopted siblings after a meteorite crashes in Tokyo, triggering an unexpected phenomenon: the emergence of powers known as Astros. This event transforms a usual gang war into an epic conflict of superhuman abilities.
Amidst rising tensions, the Yotsurugi family becomes divided, compelling Hibaru to harness his newfound powers to safeguard his loved ones from his power-hungry siblings. The series ran in Shōnen Jump from April 2024 to April 2025 and was available in English through simulpubs by Viz Media and Manga Plus. The English translation was handled by Andria McKnight, with lettering by Effie Colton.
Data from Jajanken reveals that although Astro Royale debuted impressively, ranking first in its initial chapter, its average ranking fell to 13th place. The series consistently dwelled in the late teens to 20s, suggesting it struggled to captivate its audience. Additionally, many readers commenting on platforms like Reddit expressed disappointment in the series. It seems plausible that Wakui has already set his sights on his next project, though fans await further announcements eagerly.
