Tips for Increasing Ghast Speed in Minecraft for a Happier Experience

The highly anticipated Happy Ghast is set to debut in Minecraft’s upcoming update, a revelation made by Mojang during the inaugural Minecraft Live event of 2025. This new mob, characterized by its friendly and passive nature, introduces an exciting feature: players can now fly by riding on the Happy Ghast and controlling it with a harness.

While the introduction of this new flying mechanic has sparked enthusiasm among the player base, many have noted that the speed of the Happy Ghast matches that of the traditional Nether Ghast. Thankfully, the Minecraft community has devised a method to enhance the speed of this whimsical creature, ensuring a more enjoyable flying experience.

How to Enhance the Speed of Your Happy Ghast in Minecraft

Step 1: Prepare Your Happy Ghast with a Harness

To acquire a Happy Ghast in Minecraft, you can either craft a dried ghast block using eight ghast tears and one bone block or find it spawning naturally near Nether fossils located in the Soul Sand Valley. Once you have the dried ghast block, immerse it in water for approximately 20 minutes, transforming it into a Ghastling. To complete the process, feed the Ghastling a generous amount of snowballs until it evolves into a Happy Ghast.

Next, you’ll need to create a harness using three leather pieces, two glass blocks, and one wool block. Once equipped, place the harness on the Happy Ghast to prepare it for flight.

Step 2: Gather Pigs on Leashes

Locate three to four pigs and attach leashes to each one. To do this, ensure you either have the leashes on hand or craft them beforehand. Once you have the pigs secured, approach your Happy Ghast and sit on its harness, ready for lift-off.

Step 3: Utilize Reverse Flying to Gain Speed

Once you’re seated on the Happy Ghast with the pigs in tow, you may notice sporadic bursts of speed as the ghast moves in random directions. This phenomenon occurs due to the game’s mechanics that respond to entity collisions. The Happy Ghast, being an entity itself, experiences a slight speed increase when the pigs—also entities—collide with it.

As you control the Happy Ghast while seated, the pigs are positioned in front, consistently bumping into the mob. To effectively harness this mechanic, you should fly in reverse. By doing so, the pigs will continue to push against the Happy Ghast, resulting in an increased flight speed. This technique not only offers a faster travel experience but also adds a fun twist to riding your Happy Ghast.
