The Witcher is a popular Netflix fantasy drama inspired by the literary works of Andrzej Sapkowski. Despite mixed reviews, the show has garnered a solid fan base, with many eagerly anticipating its next installment. It has been close to two years since the release of Season 3, and fans are enthusiastic about the forthcoming episodes. Laurence Fishburne, a notable new cast member, recently shared insights about the series’ future.
Fishburne, who will join the ensemble for Season 4 as Regis, embodies a character introduced in the third book, “Baptism of Fire.”Regis, a powerful higher vampire, is well-known for his intellect, indestructibility, and proficiency in medicine. He can seamlessly integrate into human society without requiring blood for sustenance. In an interview with Collider while promoting his film The Amateur alongside Rami Malek, Fishburne provided a promising update about The Witcher, confirming that Season 5 is currently in the works. He mentioned:
[Regarding] The Witcher, folks are going to have to just be patient with us. We’re starting Season 5 now. I will start when I leave here today. I go and I start filming.
Fishburne’s casting in The Witcher had its debut in January, sparking considerable interest. Initially, Netflix kept details about his character under wraps, merely labeling Regis as “a world-wise barber-surgeon with a mysterious past who joins Geralt on his journey in Season 4.”However, fans familiar with Sapkowski’s novels eagerly anticipate this character’s introduction. Fishburne expressed his enthusiasm about joining the series, stating he looks forward to immersing himself in the captivating world of The Witcher. Moreover, he shared his eagerness to reprise his role as the Bowery King in the soon-to-be-announced John Wick 5.
Fishburne’s involvement in Season 4 has generated considerable excitement among the fan base, particularly as he takes on a beloved role. However, there are mixed feelings regarding the upcoming season, especially with Liam Hemsworth stepping in to portray Geralt of Rivia after Cavill’s departure. Some fans remain skeptical about Hemsworth’s ability to fill Cavill’s shoes, given the affection for Cavill’s interpretation of the character. Nonetheless, Cavill has publicly supported Hemsworth during his exit announcement on Instagram. On another note, prominent fantasy author Brandon Sanderson criticized Netflix’s decision-making, noting that Cavill’s vision was not aligned with the show’s direction, which contributed to his departure after three seasons.
The Witcher Season 4 is projected to premiere in 2025, keeping fans on the edge of their seats in anticipation of the new storylines and character developments.
