The launch of Rise of the Ronin on PC has not gone as smoothly as anticipated, prompting Team Ninja to extend an official apology to their player base. While the developer is currently working on a patch aimed at correcting these performance issues, many fans are expressing their frustrations. They view the latest problems as indicative of a broader pattern of poorly optimized PC ports from Team Ninja.
Initially released as a PlayStation 5 exclusive in March 2024, Rise of the Ronin made its PC debut on March 10, 2025. Despite receiving largely favorable reviews for its engaging gameplay and immersive storytelling during its console launch, the game has faced criticism over graphical shortcomings. Unfortunately, the transition to the PC version appears to have magnified these existing issues while introducing additional complications.
In light of the mounting concerns, Team Ninja addressed the community via their official Twitter profile, stating, “We sincerely apologize for any inconveniences that you may have experienced.”While this message did not detail specific concerns, players have actively highlighted issues such as excessive CPU usage and delayed texture loading times—reportedly taking up to ten seconds. To mitigate these challenges, a patch is on the horizon, set for release on April 10.

Many long-time fans of Team Ninja are concerned that the troubles with Rise of the Ronin may be a continuation of ongoing issues with their PC ports. For instance, back in 2023, players reacted negatively to Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty, citing numerous bugs particularly prevalent in its PC version, leading to review bombs that have left lasting impressions on the game’s reputation. The aftermath of such feedback has resulted in a predominantly negative sentiment towards the game’s PC version.

Moreover, issues were reported with the PC version of Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin, including significant performance shortcomings such as reduced render distances and frame rate drops. Despite mixed reviews overall, its PC version received a lower average rating compared to its PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S counterparts, although the disparity is less pronounced than that of Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty. Some players even resorted to unconventional fixes, like modifying character designs to improve performance.
