Streaming Ratings: ‘Moana 2’ Debuts to High Viewership on Disney+

Streaming Ratings: Moana vs. Moana 2 Takes Center Stage

According to recent data compiled by Nielsen, Moana has dominated streaming in the United States for the past two years. However, the landscape is evolving this year as it faces formidable competition from its highly anticipated sequel, Moana 2.

Moana 2 Breaks Streaming Records

Moana 2 made its streaming debut on Disney+ on March 12 and quickly ascended to the pinnacle of streaming popularity. During the week of March 10-16, the film amassed an impressive nearly 2 billion minutes of viewing time, setting the record for the highest single-week total for any feature film on a streaming platform so far in 2025. This surpassed the previous benchmark set by Netflix’s Back in Action, which garnered 1.54 billion minutes in January. In addition to its new installment, Moana experienced a resurgence, accumulating 223 million minutes of viewing time following a two-week hiatus from the top 10 rankings.

Other Streaming Highlights

In addition to Moana 2, two other standout films made their mark on the overall streaming charts for the week. The Electric State, featuring Millie Bobby Brown, clinched third place with 1.18 billion minutes of watch time, while the Spider-Man-related film, Kraven the Hunter, captured the eighth position with 911 million minutes, both on Netflix.

Original Series Rankings

Nielsen’s metrics also highlighted notable performances among original series. Adolescence, which debuted on March 13, secured the ninth spot overall and second amongst original series with 907 million minutes of viewing time. Meanwhile, Reacher continued its streak, retaining its position as the leading original series for the fourth consecutive week with over 1.31 billion minutes. Other original series from Prime Video making the top ten included Invincible and The Wheel of Time, with 587 million minutes and 534 million minutes, respectively.

Continuing Popularity for Long-Running Series

1923, the prequel to Yellowstone, reached a new high with 833 million minutes viewed, demonstrating its growing audience. Additionally, Severance continued to impress, making the top 10 originals list for the ninth consecutive week with 586 million minutes.

Understanding the Nielsen Ratings

It is important to note that Nielsen’s streaming ratings are limited to viewing on television sets and exclude minutes viewed on computers or mobile devices. Furthermore, these ratings specifically reflect U.S. audiences, not international figures.
