Introducing the Happy Ghast: Set to debut in the 2025 Summer Game Drop, the happy ghast is an exciting new addition to the Minecraft universe. Unlike their notorious counterparts, these friendly mobs bring a lighter mood to the game. Additionally, they will serve as the first flying mounts available to players.
Players curious about the process of taming happy ghasts can find a comprehensive guide below.
Taming the Happy Ghast in Minecraft
Happy ghasts represent the latest passive mob in Minecraft, and they are inclined to stay close to players without needing a specific taming method. Unlike traditional taming (which often involves feeding specific items to animals, like bones to wolves or salmon to cats), happy ghasts simply gravitate towards players.

You can effectively tame a happy ghast right after it spawns as a ghastling. To do this, remain close to the ghastling, and it will imprint on the nearest player, beginning to follow them. In multiplayer settings, it’s crucial to stay near the dried ghast you acquire from the Nether to ensure it follows you instead of another player.
The ghastling will accompany the player until it matures into a happy ghast. However, it’s worth noting that the ghastling may occasionally become distracted and stray towards other passive or aquatic mobs.
How to Acquire a Ghastling in Minecraft
Obtaining a ghastling is straightforward. Players need to locate a dried ghast block near fossils in the Nether or craft one by using eight ghast tears and a bone block.

Once you’ve secured the dried ghast block, it’s important to hydrate it using a water block. Since placing water in the Nether is impossible, ghastlings can exclusively be spawned in the Overworld and the End. Simply place the dried ghast block in water and wait for almost 20 minutes for it to fully hydrate and transform into a ghastling.
Growing and Riding Your Ghastling in Minecraft
Following its spawn, a ghastling requires approximately another 20 minutes to grow into a happy ghast. Players can expedite this growth process by feeding the ghastling snowballs. Once the transformation is complete, crafting a harness is your next step to ride the happy ghast.
To create the harness, gather three leather pieces, two glass blocks, and one wool block. The color of the happy ghast’s harness is determined by the wool color used. To equip the harness, hold it and right-click on the happy ghast. Subsequently, right-click once more on the mob to begin your flight.
