Stellar Blade, developed by Shift Up, is on the brink of its PC release, but not without complications. Following its successful debut on the PlayStation 5 in April 2024, the game is scheduled to arrive on PC on June 11. However, a recently identified region lock problem is creating hurdles for some players looking to access it on Steam.
Shift Up, riding the success of Stellar Blade on Sony’s platform, recently announced the Complete Edition for PC and PS5. This edition promises an array of exciting new content, including 25 additional Nano Suits, a new boss battle, enhanced voiceover options for Japanese and Chinese, and improved facial animations for players opting for these languages. While anticipation builds for the PC version and the potential mods that will be created, a concerning issue regarding regional accessibility has emerged, disrupting plans for many gamers.
Shift Up’s Efforts to Solve the PC Region Lock Challenge
“We are closely discussing the region lock issue with the publisher and are doing our BEST to resolve most of it as soon as possible. As shown in the test chart below, the DRM has been hard-tuned to maintain the same average frame rate, with even higher minimum frames…” — StellarBlade (@StellarBlade) May 16, 2025
Recently, it was discovered that the Steam edition of Stellar Blade has been restricted in over 100 countries for unclear reasons. In response, Shift Up reassured fans via Twitter, revealing that they are in discussions with Sony to resolve this unusual region lock situation swiftly. They emphasized that players do not need to link their PSN accounts to access the game, enhancing accessibility. Moreover, mod support for the PC launch will be unrestricted, a welcomed feature for many players, despite the inclusion of the contentious Denuvo DRM system.
Despite the challenges, Stellar Blade has achieved remarkable success since its launch, becoming the best-selling game in North America in April 2024 and reaching one million copies sold by June. Recent updates highlighted that the game’s director, Kim Hyung-tae, is now among Korea’s wealthiest individuals, boasting a net worth of approximately $725 million. Following the resolution of the region lock issue, many are eager to see how the game will perform on PC.

Hyung-tae recently shared his pick for Game of the Year 2025, showing admiration for Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 and confirming he reached Platinum status after dedicating 96 hours to the game. Currently, Expedition 33 is shining brightly in 2025’s rankings on OpenCritic, boasting a remarkable average score of 92. In comparison, both Split Fiction and Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 are ranked slightly lower at 90.
