Warning: This article contains SPOILERS for Star Wars: Legacy of Vader #3
Intriguing Connections in the Star Wars Universe
The Star Wars saga continues to unveil fascinating links between characters, particularly showcasing the prowess of Din Djarin, the central figure in The Mandalorian, and a notable figure from the sequel trilogy. In the premiere of Season 2 of The Mandalorian, Din Djarin’s remarkable conquest over a formidable Krayt dragon on Tatooine caught fans’ attention. Recently, it has been uncovered that another character from the franchise shares a similar notable achievement within the expansive Star Wars canon.
Kylo Ren’s Epic Encounter with a Krayt Dragon
In the recently released comic series Legacy of Vader, authored by Charles Soule and illustrated by Luke Ross, Supreme Leader Kylo Ren is seen unraveling the legacy of his grandfather, Darth Vader. Accompanied by Vaneé, Vader’s former aide, Kylo embarks on perilous adventures beginning with Tatooine, a desert planet that holds painful memories connected to his family’s past. Here, Kylo finds himself trapped by Gardulla, the notorious Hutt crime lord, but soon breaks free, kicking off a quest for revenge that sees him face the dangers of the desert, including—ironically—a Krayt dragon.
A Fearless Confrontation

During his journey, Kylo Ren confronts a Canyon Krayt dragon while unarmed in Legacy of Vader #3. Displaying tremendous strength and skill, he subdues the beast using only his bare hands. Post-battle, Ren creatively utilizes the dragon’s hide to fashion a protective poncho and crafts weapons from its fangs. In a display of ruthlessness, he dispatches two scavengers and commandeers their transmitter to contact the First Order, orchestrating an orbital strike on Gardulla’s hideout. Additionally, he eliminates several of Gardulla’s henchmen in his pursuit of his lightsaber. However, the fate of Gardulla herself remains uncertain by the chapter’s conclusion. Kylo Ren’s ability to take down a Krayt dragon places him alongside a unique group of Star Wars characters, which notably includes Din Djarin.
A Comparison of Impressive Feats
While it is true that Kylo’s dragon was a Canyon Krayt, smaller than the Leviathan Krayt dragon faced by Din Djarin, the circumstances of their victories are crucial to consider. In The Mandalorian, Djarin received significant support from a coalition of Tusken Raiders, Marshal Cobb Vanth, and Mos Pelgo locals to lure and distract the massive creature. Ultimately, it was Djarin who dealt the decisive blow, allowing himself to be consumed by the Krayt dragon along with an explosives-laden bantha before making a daring escape.
Despite the differing dimensions of their respective dragons and the assistance received by Djarin, both Kylo Ren and Din Djarin have accomplished extraordinary feats in slaying Krayt dragons on their own terms.
