Although an official announcement has yet to be made, Paul Walter Hauser has seemingly hinted that Inside Out 3 is on the horizon. This animated series follows the life journey of Riley Anderson and illustrates how her emotions, such as Joy and Anxiety, influence her growth and experiences. The original film debuted in 2015 and resonated with audiences, ultimately clinching the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature. Nearly a decade later, Inside Out 2 captivated viewers once more, raking in approximately $1.7 billion globally, leaving fans eager for a sequel that has yet to be officially confirmed.
In a recent interview with ComicBook.com, Hauser, who lends his voice to the character Embarrassment, appeared to confirm the development of Inside Out 3. He remarked, “I heard we might be doing another one,” elaborating on how the films resonate across generations. Hauser cited the franchise’s unique ability to treat its younger audience as intellectually capable, enriching their viewing experience. Below are his insights:
Crazy, it’s nutty. I heard we might be doing another one. I don’t know when or how or where, but the movie just resonated with people of all ages and it really, I think what’s different about the Inside Out movies from other animated films is it doesn’t really treat children as less intellectual beings. It really tells a funny, brilliant story, and they’ll grow with it as they get older, they’ll get some of the other jokes and it’ll find new resonance. So I just love getting to be a part of these worlds. I mean, you look at Pixar, Cobra Kai, I’m in the new Fantastic Four film. So Marvel and now MLW, it’s like I love joining these families and these sorts of cinematic universes that they are and getting to be some part of it. It’s been such a joy, man.
Implications of Hauser’s Comments for Inside Out 3
Increased Likelihood of Another Sequel

Hauser’s recent remarks suggest a promising future for Inside Out 3, although the timing of an official Pixar announcement remains uncertain. Given the remarkable commercial success of Inside Out 2, which briefly dominated the animated film landscape before the release of Ne Zha 2, it seems plausible that a third installment is on the way. Co-writer Dave Holstein previously expressed to Screen Rant his enthusiasm for continuing Riley’s story, hinting at her potential future as a parent.
By integrating new emotions like Anxiety and Embarrassment, Inside Out 2 has laid a foundation for further sequels. The narrative can evolve, perhaps depicting Riley as she embarks on her high school journey, where themes of social dynamics and budding romances can be explored. Alternatively, the story could leap forward to her high school graduation, potentially introducing even more emotions that Joy and her companions must learn to navigate.
Our Perspective on the Prospects for Inside Out 3
The Potential for a Groundbreaking Sequel

As Hauser noted, the Pixar franchise excels in its ability to connect with a diverse audience. Observing Riley’s evolution and her adaptation to the complexities of changing emotions might resonate particularly well with young viewers navigating similar life experiences. Although an official confirmation is still pending, Hauser’s comments provide an optimistic outlook for Inside Out 3. Given the franchise’s existing popularity and the overwhelming success of the sequel, it is reasonable to anticipate that the next installment could achieve even greater heights upon its release.
