Stanley Tucci Shares Insights on His Character in ‘The Devil Wears Prada’

Stanley Tucci Reflects on Iconic Role

With an illustrious career spanning over four decades, seasoned actor Stanley Tucci has portrayed a diverse array of characters. However, during a recent appearance on The Kelly Clarkson Show, he revealed that one character resonates with him more than the others: Nigel from The Devil Wears Prada.

A Personal Connection to Nigel

When guest host Kal Penn asked Tucci which of his roles mirrors his real-life personality, he instantly said, “Nigel in The Devil Wears Prada! He’s very stylish, and he can be a bit caustic. But he’s got a good heart.” The actor humorously added, “I mean, I think I have a good heart.”

Memorable Performance and Career Impact

In the 2006 film, Tucci stars alongside Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway as the fashionable art director at Runway magazine. His character plays a pivotal role in guiding Andy (Hathaway) through the challenges of her role as an assistant to the formidable editor-in-chief, Miranda Priestly (Streep).

Struggles After Success

Despite the film’s massive success, Tucci faced challenges in securing new roles in its aftermath. Reflecting on this period, he stated, “After The Devil Wears Prada, I couldn’t get a job, and I didn’t quite understand that, but that’s just the way it was.” He shared that he took on roles that weren’t appealing but felt obligated to pursue them.

A Flourishing Career

Since then, Tucci has built an impressive filmography, including notable appearances in Julie & Julia (again alongside Streep), The Lovely Bones, Easy A, Burlesque, Captain America: The First Avenger, the The Hunger Games series, Spotlight, and Beauty and the Beast. Most recently, he portrayed a cardinal in Conclave, which won the Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay.

Anticipating a Sequel

Exciting news has emerged regarding a potential sequel to The Devil Wears Prada. Last July, it was confirmed that writer Aline Brosh McKenna is working on the script. During this year’s Palm Springs International Film Festival, Tucci expressed optimism about the project, telling The Hollywood Reporter, “My hope is we’ll be making it soon.”
