Album Insights and Themes
The title Übermensch is derived from the concept of the “overman”introduced by the German philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche, symbolizing an individual who transcends conventional norms and creates their own values.
The album is comprised of eight tracks, showcasing a blend of innovative sounds:
- HOME SWEET HOME (feat. TAEYANG & DAESUNG)
- POWER
- TOO BAD (feat. Anderson. Paak)
- DRAMA
- IBELONGIIU
- TAKE ME
- 보나마나 (BONAMANA)
- GYRO-DROP
Notably, the lead single, HOME SWEET HOME, features a poignant collaboration with his fellow BIGBANG members, Taeyang and Daesung, celebrating their enduring friendship. Additionally, the track TOO BAD, featuring American rapper Anderson. Paak, merges G-Dragon’s unique style with rich soulful melodies.
Thematically, Übermensch delves into self-discovery and emotional complexity, particularly evident in the song DRAMA, which poignantly addresses the challenges of tumultuous relationships. Musically, the album traverses a spectrum from the energetic rhythms of POWER to the introspective tones of IBELONGIIU.
Commercial Performance and Milestones
Upon its release, Übermensch secured impressive chart placements:
- South Korea (Circle Album Chart): Debuted at No. 2
- Japan (Oricon Combined Albums): Reached No. 13
- Australia (ARIA Albums Chart): Peaked at No. 26
A New Chapter: Departure from YG Entertainment
In December 2023, G-Dragon officially left YG Entertainment after two decades, moving on to sign with Galaxy Corporation and EMPIRE. The Korea Herald reported that YG Entertainment transferred the rights to the G-Dragon and GD names back to him and his new label without compensation, signaling a new beginning for the artist.
Giving Back to the Community
In response to the significant devastation caused by wildfires in Gyeongsang-do and Ulsan earlier in 2025, G-Dragon donated 300 million won to aid recovery efforts. These fires tragically resulted in around 30 fatalities and widespread destruction, affecting over 45,000 hectares of land and destroying over 300 homes.
