Solo Leveling‘s Jeju Island Arc has showcased an impressive confrontation between Jin-Woo and the formidable Ant King. However, Jin-Woo’s subsequent challenge lies in rescuing the ailing Cha Hae-In, whose health is in grave danger. The earlier battle had already inflicted heavy losses on the South Korean Hunters, and Jin-Woo’s interventions are proving insufficient to alleviate Hae-In’s suffering. Can he find a way to save her?

Upon landing on Jeju Island, Jin-Woo triumphed over the strongest adversary he has encountered thus far. He effectively healed many injured Hunters, but his abilities fell short with Cha Hae-In. With every tick of the clock, her life hangs more precariously. Is there any hope left for Jin-Woo, or has he truly reached a dead end?

Explaining Cha Hae-In’s Fatal Condition

What Happened to Cha Hae-In?

The Ant King attacking Hae-In

The Jeju Raid Party split into two teams to combat the Ant threat: the Japanese Hunters diverted most of the ants, allowing the South Korean Hunters to assault the Ant Queen’s lair. Cha Hae-In and her allies progressed steadily, ultimately vanquishing the Queen—Hae-In delivering the killing blow. However, just as they celebrated, a new danger emerged that proved catastrophic.

The Ant King’s Reign of Terror

The Ant King, known for his ruthlessness, had already slaughtered countless S-Rank Japanese Hunters. Upon witnessing the death of his Queen, he focused his fury on the Hunters, swiftly incapacitating Hae-In with a punishing blow that left her critically injured against a wall. The King continued his assault, claiming the life of Min Byung-Gyu, an S-Rank healer who could have been Hae-In’s salvation.

The Limits of Jin-Woo’s Healing Efforts

Upon Jin-Woo’s arrival, he wasted no time, using potions to heal the injured Hunters. However, his attempt to use the same potion on Hae-In proved futile; her severe condition rendered her HP alarmingly low, and the potion could not address such grave injuries. Following the defeat of the Ant King, Jin-Woo rushed to her side, only to discover that her life force was fading—her skin pale and her energy rapidly diminishing.

As a desperate measure, he resorted to the Elixir of Life, a potent remedy that once helped cure his mother’s Eternal Sleep. Regrettably, the Elixir fell short yet again, as it was designed to combat illnesses, not physical trauma.

With the Elixir’s failure looming over him, Jin-Woo considered other alternatives. He contemplated using Shadow Exchange to teleport Hae-In to a medical facility or to sprint away on Kaisel, yet both plans were fraught with complications. Shadow Exchange still faced a cooldown period from Jin-Woo’s trip to Jeju, while journeying on Kaisel could take too long and risk Hae-In’s life. Thus, Jin-Woo’s last (and most desperate) resort was to employ Shadow Extraction.

The Triumph of Shadow Extraction

Jin-Woo rescuing Hae-In

In Chapter 104, Jin-Woo opted for Shadow Extraction using the lifeless form of Min Byung-Gyu. Initially, Byung-Gyu’s spirit resisted this transformation, finding it morally reprehensible. However, the stakes were high—Cha Hae-In’s life hung in the balance. Jin-Woo urgently persuaded him to comply. Once transformed, Byung-Gyu’s shadow instinctively began to heal Hae-In without needing orders from Jin-Woo. Baek Yoon-Ho, taken aback and furious by Jin-Woo’s actions, surprisingly pled with him to handle his fallen friend’s shadow respectfully.

Understanding Yoon-Ho’s sentiments, Jin-Woo chose to dispel the shadow after Hae-In was restored, reinforcing the notion that his power, while formidable, stems from a place of noble intentions. Though still unconscious, Hae-In’s life was finally secured.

With Jin-Woo’s extraordinary abilities, the Jeju Island Arc concludes, leading to Hae-In’s revival. This pivotal experience may foster a deeper connection between Hae-In and Jin-Woo, possibly paving the way for future battles fought side by side. The end of this arc also signifies the conclusion of Season 2 of Solo Leveling.
