The highly anticipated Saturday Night Live season 50, episode 17 debuted on NBC on April 5, 2025. During the popular Weekend Update segment, cast member Ego Nwodim introduced her comedic alter ego, Ms. Eggy, who prepared to deliver a roast intended for the upcoming White House correspondents’ dinner.
In an unexpected twist, Ms. Eggy opened with a comedic prompt, “These men ain’t what?” which aimed to elicit a humorous audience response. To everyone’s shock, an audience member answered with one of the Federal Communications Commission’s seven banned expletives: “s*it,” visibly surprising Ego and her co-anchors, Colin Jost and Michael Che.
Following this incident, producers quickly muted the expletive in subsequent social media clips. Notably, the profanity was briefly broadcast in the East Coast Feed and on Peacock due to the live airing of the show. However, the delay in NBC’s Mountain and West Coast feeds effectively prevented viewers in those regions from hearing the outburst.
Highlights from Ego Nwodim’s Weekend Update Performance
In this memorable episode, which featured Jack Black as the host and included musical performances by Sir Elton John and Brandi Carlile, the Weekend Update segment also tackled recent events. Colin Jost relayed news that the White House Correspondents’ Association decided against featuring a comedian at this year’s dinner, citing intentions to steer clear of “divisive politics.”
This decision followed the cancellation of comedian Amber Ruffin‘s anticipated performance, reportedly influenced by criticism from the Trump administration, according to Newsweek. In light of this announcement, Colin invited Ego to share her thoughts on the matter.
In a playful rebuttal, Ego proposed that she should entertain at the dinner instead. She humorously assured her audience that her jibing would focus on the event itself rather than making jabs at the White House or the press as many comedians have done in the past.
“Yeah, that’s because every year, a comedian gets up there talking trash about the White House, about the media, but no one’s ever just made fun of the dinner,” Ego remarked.
Subsequently, she transitioned from the news desk to her stand-up persona, Ms. Eggy, showcasing a roast she had crafted specifically for the occasion. She opened her bit with humor about the dinner’s menu, joking about the food options. After listing meat choices like beef, fish, and chicken, she quipped about the vegetarian option, stating it involved “walking your gay a** to Sweetgreen across the street.”
The skit quickly involved the audience in a call-and-response dynamic. When Ms. Eggy prompted, “Miss Eggy don’t what?” the crowd enthusiastically responded with “Play.” This interaction took an unexpected turn when Ms. Eggy continued,
“Cory Booker out here with his filibuster. Shoot. I had my fill of busters. ‘Cause these men ain’t what?”
The crowd’s answer, unfortunately, included the now-censored profanity. Ego addressed the slip with humor, joking that the audience member would have to bear the consequences, implying that producer Lorne Michaels would not take kindly to the outburst.
“We fittin’ to get fined for that. Worth a damn, sucker. Y’all gonna have to pay for that. Lorne gonna be mad at y’all,” she added in character.
While the explicit remark has since been removed from all shared clips, many viewers caught the shocked expressions of Ego, Colin, and Michael during the live broadcast.
