Season 2 of BAFTA-Winning U.K. Crime Drama ‘Sherwood’ is Back

The acclaimed U.K. crime series, Sherwood, celebrated for its impressive 100% Certified Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes, is set to make its much-anticipated return in the U.S. The second season, already streaming in full on BBC iPlayer in the U.K., will debut on BritBox on November 14, 2024.

What Is the Focus of Sherwood Season 2?

The plot of the inaugural season of Sherwood followed a community grappling with the aftermath of two tragic murders, intertwined with the repercussions of undercover policing that occurred in the 1980s. Amid this turmoil, DCI Ian St Clair (portrayed by David Morrissey) collaborated with his former adversary DI Kevin Salisbury (played by Robert Glenister) to reveal that a key local figure had previously worked as an undercover officer.

In the upcoming season, themes of betrayal, vengeance, and rivalry are poised to deepen. According to an official synopsis shared by BritBox, Sherwood season 2 will unfold as follows:

“Set in contemporary times, [Sherwood season 2] brings in two new families embroiled with the Sparrows, drawing them into a tangled network of local gangs, enduring rivalries, and cycles of revenge and deception. At the same time, a newly appointed Sheriff of Nottingham is fervently opposing a proposed mine in the region, which promises essential employment and economic growth yet also stirs painful reminders of the community’s troubled history.”
