On March 17, Sean Lowe, a well-known American television personality, bravely recounted a harrowing experience involving his rescue boxer, Moose. Within a span of just 24 hours, Lowe endured two aggressive attacks from Moose, which resulted in significant injuries that required him to seek medical attention in an emergency room.
In an almost 14-minute video shared on Instagram, Sean described the severity of the situation. He expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support from friends and followers, stating in his video caption:
“Our family has been through it the last few days but we’ll be okay. Thank you to everyone for the support. We’re very grateful…”
While joined by his wife, Catherine Giudici Lowe, Sean explained that their weekend had taken a dreadful turn. He recounted the moments leading up to the first attack, saying:
“He shows his teeth at me and just attacks me… I don’t mean bite and then run off — like a lot of dogs do when they’re scared or defensive — I mean attacks me…”
Sean vividly depicted the terrifying encounter:
“I feel him ripping into the flesh of my arm, and at this point I’m doing everything I possibly can just to fend this dog off. … I know I’m bleeding badly.”
Confronting the Incident: Sean Lowe Reflects on Moose’s Behavior
In his candid discussion, Lowe called the incident “traumatic” as he recounted how he had been setting up a barbecue while Catherine was at the mall. With the doors and windows open, smoke from the barbecue set off the family’s smoke alarm, causing confusion. In the midst of addressing the alarm, Moose unexpectedly attacked.
After a struggle alongside his guests, Sean managed to escape but needed immediate medical attention for his injuries. Not long after returning home, he faced another ordeal when a gust of wind blew the door open, allowing Moose to attack him a second time.
Describing the second attack, Lowe stated that Moose “ripped” his arm open during their confrontation. The fear for his safety became palpable, leading him to seek help once more after the police and an ambulance arrived. He expressed surprise at the dog’s behavior, emphasizing that Moose had never previously exhibited aggression since being adopted by the family in January.
Sean recounted his intense fear during the ordeal:
“I’m not trying to be dramatic, but I honestly just felt like I am fighting for my life here against my dog.”
Lowe further detailed the psychological impact of the attacks, explaining:
“Going through a dog attack is pretty darn traumatic… Having to re-live it less than 12 hours later, seeing that dog running straight at you, is a feeling I don’t think I ever want to experience again.”
Lowe expressed relief that he was the only one harmed, reflecting on the potential for worse outcomes:
“It took everything I had to control this dog, and I’m 220 pounds… If it were anyone else, he would’ve killed my children or my wife.”
Towards the conclusion of the video, Sean conveyed compassion for Moose, stating:
“It wasn’t Moose’s fault.. I think it’s clear he experienced a lot of trauma before we got him and had something neurologically wrong where just a switch flipped and he turned into an absolute killer, which was so weird.”
Acknowledging the need for the family’s safety, Sean and Catherine are collaborating with a no-kill shelter to find Moose a more suitable environment, believing that his behavior is not inherently blameworthy. He concluded with an emotional note:
“We’re torn up about it… And we miss our dog, as crazy as it sounds.”
Catherine Giudici Lowe has yet to weigh in publicly on the incident, leaving many followers curious about her perspective.
