San Diego Comic-Con Makes Historic European Debut in Málaga

The renowned San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC) is set to unveil its first-ever European event, bringing the excitement of cosplay and popular culture to Málaga, Spain. This landmark expansion, facilitated by IMG Licensing, will take place from September 25 to 28, 2025, marking an unprecedented move in the convention’s history.

This significant venture is made possible thanks to the robust backing from local authorities, including the Junta de Andalucía and the Málaga City Council. According to SDCC, their partnership has been crucial in positioning Málaga as the European capital of popular arts, emphasizing the city’s commitment to cultural events.

Event Highlights and Notable Guests

The grand announcement was made during a vibrant event at the Gran Hotel Miramar, featuring prominent figures such as director Santiago Segura and various city officials, including Juan Manuel Moreno Bonilla, President of Junta de Andalucía, and Francisco de la Torre Prados, the Mayor of Málaga.

The celebration attracted over 200 exclusive guests from diverse sectors, including film, television, comics, and illustration. Notable attendees included acclaimed figures like Álex de la Iglesia, Carolina Bang, and Icíar Bollain, enhancing the event’s prestige.

The event also featured captivating displays, including the Infinity Gauntlet, a collectible item inspired by Thanos from *Avengers: Infinity War* and crafted by Gentle Giant Ltd. Attendees were also treated to a lively performance by the 501st Legion, a global organization dedicated to celebrating the *Star Wars* universe, as they paraded in character as Stormtroopers and Darth Vader.

Enhancing the immersive experience, guests enjoyed a themed cocktail party that included a surprise flash mob performance, where some attendees showcased their professional dancing skills to the iconic *Mission Impossible* soundtrack. Adding to the excitement, a beloved droid, R2D2, made a special appearance, mingling with attendees and enhancing the celebratory atmosphere.
