The concluding episode of the first installment of Yuto Suzuki’s anime adaptation, SAKAMOTO DAYS, may not have reached the anticipated emotional crescendo typical of a season finale. Nevertheless, it still served a significant purpose in advancing the storyline. Following Lu Wutang’s dramatic escape from the mafia, he becomes a vital member of the team, claiming he may not have an exact grasp of “Slur’s”identity but possesses crucial insights about four notorious death row inmates. Wutang believes these convicts might have eluded their sentences and are currently at large in Japan.

Unique Traits of SAKAMOTO DAYS Characters Explored

SAKAMOTO DAYS

In Episode 11, Wutang discloses vital information from a contact within the criminal underworld, a corpse dealer, highlighting four gruesome murder cases linked to unusual and macabre circumstances in Japan. One victim was discovered entirely flayed, another compacted into a small sphere, while another had multiple punctures, and a final victim was left eviscerated. These alarming findings lead to the revelation that four death row prisoners have potentially faked their deaths and escaped from a maximum-security facility in Southeast Asia.

  • Dump: This young woman, recognizable by her brown skin and distinct eight-pointed star tattoo, boasts a chilling count of 108 victims. Her rap sheet includes murder, armed robbery, and the illegal disposal of corpses. Her outlook? A disturbing belief that individuals reach their peak beauty when facing death, after which she finds them ugly.
  • Saw: Sporting gelled topspike hair and a van Dyke beard, his criminal portfolio features 64 victims alongside charges of murder, robbery, mutilation, and corpse disposal.
  • Apart: Despite his timid demeanor, he has an unsettling history of over 200 murders. His crimes include kidnapping and mutilation, and his obsessive nature is disconcertingly displayed in his despair over trivial matters, such as his disappointment with pickles on a burger.
  • Minimalist: Towering above others, this infamous serial killer uses a crushing method for murder, racking up an astonishing 370 kills.

Notably, these outlandish criminals have no qualms about attracting attention, as evidenced by their conspicuous rendezvous with Kashima at a bustling WcDonald’s. Kashima is instructed by “X”to recruit these death row criminals to eliminate Sakamoto and his allies. An enthusiast for life, Kashima finds being associated with such ruthless individuals—a cadre keen on killing purely for pleasure—unsettling.

The disconcerting nature of these convicts is underscored as Minimalist warns Kashima that they require a fresh target list by the next month; otherwise, they will unleash a rampage throughout Japan. Their names cleverly reflect their lethality, from Minimalist’s obvious crushing technique to the more ambiguous methods of Dump and Saw.

“Excuse me, I need to disassemble you. Wheeew, that’s better! Now I can make sense of you! After all, it’s what’s inside a person that counts!” – Apart, SAKAMOTO DAYS chapter 38

Sakamoto’s Strategic Response

Strategizing with a Film

Lu Shin and Sakamoto – SAKAMOTO DAYS Episode 11

Upon learning of the psychopathic murderers on their trail, the Sakamoto family promptly seeks to gather intelligence to prepare for confrontation. They venture to the video rental store, where Sakamoto had previously gathered crucial intel on the Dondenkai, selecting a film from the psycho-horror section to better understand the intentions and methods of their adversaries.

The video reveals not only the specific modus operandi of each killer but also delves deeper into the disturbing psychological backgrounds of Apart and his fellow convicts. While the initial installment of SAKAMOTO DAYS received mixed reviews—primarily regarding animation quality—the upcoming second course is poised to deliver a more intense and gripping experience.
