Sadie Sink Reveals Emotional Farewell: “Cried So Much” on Final Day of ‘Stranger Things’ with “Some Pretty Embarrassing Photos”

Sadie Sink Shines at SXSW with Film Debut

On Saturday, actress Sadie Sink graced the screens at the South by Southwest (SXSW) festival in Austin, Texas, where she premiered her latest film, O’Dessa. This event comes on the heels of her recent wrap-up of the iconic Netflix series, Stranger Things.

Reflections on Stranger Things

The beloved series completed filming for its fifth and final season in December 2023, with an anticipated release later this year. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Sink expressed her excitement and curiosity about the upcoming episodes, stating, “I haven’t seen anything from it yet, I’m very curious though. It’s going to be super emotional so I’m ready to cry with everyone.”

Sink also reminisced about her emotional farewell to the Stranger Things set, recalling, “I had cried so much that my eyes were so puffy — they had never been like that before, and there are some pretty embarrassing photos of me just with these giant puffy eyes.”

New Challenges with O’Dessa

Before diving into promotional activities for Stranger Things, Sink is taking center stage in O’Dessa, a rock opera that unfolds in a post-apocalyptic world. In this new role, she portrays O’Dessa, a farm girl on an adventurous quest to recover a family heirloom and save her true love.

When discussing the concept of a “rock opera,”Sink shared her initial intrigue and the necessity to hear the music before committing. “I had to listen to the music first. And then I did and fell in love with the character and the musical world that [writer-director] Geremy [Jasper] had built. So it seemed like the perfect challenge to take on,” she noted.

Returning to Her Roots

Having launched her career on Broadway, Sink is set to make a return to the stage this spring in the play John Proctor is the Villain. However, she acknowledges that singing for film is markedly different from Broadway performances. “I hadn’t sung in like 10 years, so it was cool to come into a new voice through O’Dessa. Scary but rewarding,” she reflected.

Upcoming Streaming Release

O’Dessa features a talented ensemble cast, including Kelvin Harrison Jr., Regina Hall, and Murray Bartlett. The film is set to stream on Hulu starting March 20, 2025.
