Rock the Block Season 6 Episode 2 Recap: Rising Tensions Amidst Home Renovations in Utah

The highly anticipated Rock the Block Season 6, Episode 2 premiered on April 21, captivating audiences with its competitive spirit as four teams clashed in a thrilling property renovation showdown. Guest judges Jasmine Roth and Mina Starsiak-Hawk guided the evaluations, as this season’s properties were set against the scenic backdrop of Salt Lake City, Utah, offering unique challenges in their makeovers aimed at increasing sales value.

Each team was allocated a substantial budget of $250,000 to enhance these mountainside houses, which boasted the largest backyards in the series’ history. Following the renovation of the kitchen, dining, and living rooms in the prior episode, the focus shifted to the first floor in Episode 2. After a fierce competition, Chelsea and Cole emerged victorious, securing $3,000 for their upcoming project.

Highlights from Rock the Block Season 6, Episode 2

The episode commenced with designers Alison Victoria and Michel Smith Boyd starting off with an extra $3,000 due to their successful kitchen design from the last episode, a win decided by guest judge Bobby Berk, known for his role on Queer Eye.

Despite their initial advantage, their budget strategy came into play as they spent a hefty $110,000 on the kitchen, dining room, and living room renovations. Hence, they were at a disadvantage entering Episode 2, with a total budget less than their rivals.

In this episode, teams learned they were not only tasked with updating the first floor but also required to enhance the entryway, den, powder bath, and mudroom. The Knight brothers strategically designed functionality into their space, incorporating a dog washing station and a central vacuum, with a projected budget of $30,000 to $35,000.

Alison envisioned complementing their design with arches, while Michel proposed a hidden door leading to the den, transforming it into a home office. This time, their budget was in line with other competitors, as they earmarked $30,000 for these renovations.

Rising Tensions in Episode 2 of Rock the Block

Conflict brewed as Kamohai and Tristyn Kalama expressed their frustration at being labeled rookies, highlighting their experience in the renovation field. As designs evolved, many teams made bold choices, while the Knight brothers exercised caution after receiving feedback from Bobby Berk regarding their earlier kitchen design being overly busy. In a tactical move, Chelsea and Cole opted for a green color palette, which had proven successful for Alison and Michel previously.

Alison and Michel faced creative differences when it came to incorporating a vintage sink in the powder bath, but ultimately Michel relented, allowing Alison’s vision to materialize. On the other hand, Kamohai and Tristyn had to pivot when they realized their budget for cabinets in the mudroom had evaporated due to overspending on the den and powder room, forcing them to consider open shelving as a solution.

The guest judges visited each team’s renovation sites, providing critiques and valuable feedback before announcing Chelsea and Cole as the week’s winners, who were awarded an additional $3,000 for their success.
