Chaos Unfolds in the Absolute Universe
Written by Al Ewing, with art by Jahnoy Lindsay and Lucas Gattoni, Absolute Green Lantern #1 immediately illustrates the cruel reality Hal faces in the Absolute Universe. Hal’s distress becomes evident as he enters a diner, where his peculiar demeanor and refusal to remove his hand from his pocket attract the attention of wary patrons and staff. His explanations of the chaotic events that transpired lead to an escalation of tension when a man seizes Hal’s concealed hand, expecting a weapon. Instead, what emerges is an inky black substance that lashes out, resulting in the man’s death.
In a moment of desperation, Hal warns the diners of the alien presence now inhabiting him—a being reminiscent of Marvel’s symbiotes. However, his pleas fall on deaf ears. When a waitress pulls a gun and shoots at him, the alien entity reacts violently, leading to a catastrophic end for everyone in the diner. Surprisingly, Hal discovers that rather than succumbing to his wounds, he experiences a miraculous recovery as the dark mass envelops his injuries.

This newfound integration with the alien entity grants Hal a chilling truth: while the presence within him shows no hesitation to kill, it is equally intent on ensuring his survival, swiftly mending fatal injuries. Thus, Hal Jordan has become an unkillable force, now resonating with similarities to the Hulk.
