tvN’s latest drama, Divorce Insurance, made its premiere on March 31, 2025, and is also available for worldwide streaming on Amazon Prime Video.

The narrative focuses on Noh Ki-jun (portrayed by Lee Dong-wook), a highly intelligent yet three-time divorcee who leads a specialized team tasked with developing divorce insurance. He is supported by Kang Han-deul (played by Lee Joo-bin), an underwriter navigating life post-divorce; An Jeon-man (featured by Lee Kwang-soo), a meticulous risk surveyor; and Jeon Na-rae (interpreted by Lee Da-hee), a perceptive financial mathematician.

Episode 1 Recap: The Introduction to Divorce Insurance

The inaugural episode kicks off at a bustling wedding fair, where numerous engaged couples hustle to secure attractive deals for their upcoming nuptials. In an unexpected twist, Noh Ki-jun, alongside Kang Han-deul and An Jeon-man, bursts onto the scene to promote their innovative concept—divorce insurance.

Ki-jun fervently advocates for the importance of preparing for potential divorce as much as one would for a wedding, citing the emotional and financial toll it can exact. Amidst his passionate pitch about the intricacies of alimony and marital dissolution challenges, Jeon-man grows increasingly uncomfortable with the team’s approach, which lacks polish.

Reluctantly, frustrated couples express their disapproval, leading to a chaotic expulsion of Ki-jun and his crew. Following a heated exchange with Jeon-man regarding the challenges of taking risks, a curious potential client approaches them, rekindling Ki-jun’s spirits as he asserts that weddings and divorces can both culminate in personal fulfillment.

A flashback presents Ki-jun three months prior, revealing him waking up startled by his boss’s unexpected appearance outside his window. With only his boss, Na Dae-bok, remaining in the company’s product development team, Ki-jun’s innovative ideas consistently fall flat. Relieved to awaken from this nightmare, he soon finds inspiration in a dream featuring the “God of Insurance,”who suggests that insurance equates to happiness—prompting Ki-jun to confront his deepest source of discontent: his own divorce.

The subsequent day, Dae-bok’s wife informs him of her intention to divorce, unbeknownst to Ki-jun, who enthusiastically pitches his divorce insurance concept, emphasizing its critical value.

Meanwhile, Han-deul grapples with her newly solo life as she breaks down over her unintended purchase of two meal portions. Adjusting to this new chapter proves challenging, compounded by the emotional weight of her ex-husband’s betrayal.

At the office, Ki-jun diligently seeks advocates for his divorce insurance proposal, highlighting the extensive repercussions of divorce on mental health, financial stability, and housing conditions. Jeon-man remains the sole voice of skepticism, prompting Ki-jun to explore the roots of his partner’s doubt.

Through their exchanges, it becomes apparent that both men share a history of divorce, albeit Ki-jun has navigated three unions while Jeon-man has done so only once. As Jeon-man questions Ki-jun’s pursuit of love, Ki-jun candidly reveals his lack of compatibility with casual relationships.

A revealing flashback illustrates Han-deul’s tumultuous relationship with her ex-husband, who irresponsibly borrowed against their home to fund an unproductive café, ultimately betraying her trust. Their fraught exchange, peppered with accusations, further fuels Han-deul’s feelings of failure.

Later, Han-deul meets up with Ah-yeong, who playfully teases her for being overly sentimental. Recently ended in her own engagement, Ah-yeong vows to retain all wedding gifts as compensation and encourages Han-deul to redefine herself by cultivating a more carefree persona.

However, her resolve begins to wane when she returns home to discover her ex has emptied their shared space, leaving only a mattress. As she grapples with disposing of it, an intoxicated Ki-jun mistakenly identifies the mattress as something otherworldly.

Their encounter culminates in a clumsy fall onto the mattress, leading to a misunderstanding that results in their arrest for public indecency. At the police station, an argument ensues, but Ki-jun impresses Han-deul with his erudite use of the term “evasive” —a word misused by her ex, leaving a lasting impression as they part ways, believing destiny has intervened to separate them.

Back at the office, Ki-jun’s divorce insurance proposal gains unexpected traction, drawing curious clients eager to secure coverage. Ah-yeong’s quirky personality earns her a place on the team, while Jeon-man takes on the role of risk surveyor. Han-deul, too, impresses Ki-jun with her insightful statistical analysis of divorce, securing her position within the group.

However, tensions rise as the CEO’s daughter seeks coverage for her impending high-profile divorce. The intrigue deepens with the introduction of a new executive vice president from Singapore—a highly analytical financial mathematician—prompting the team to wonder about this enigmatic figure.

As the first episode draws to a close, viewers are met with a shocking plot twist as the elevator doors part to reveal Jeon Na-rae, Ki-jun’s ex-wife, sparking intrigue for what lies ahead.

Mark your calendars, as the next captivating episode of Divorce Insurance is set to air on April 1.
