The final audition round kicked off with a captivating montage showcasing standout performances from the previous weeks. Carrie Underwood, enjoying her new role, referred to the experience as “a fun ride.”The first performer, JMarie, a 28-year-old from Brooklyn, shared her rich Haitian heritage through a soulful rendition of Underwood’s “Before He Cheats,”which she described as a “hood anthem.”Carrie initially felt apprehensive about contestants covering her songs, but JMarie’s powerful performance won her over. JMarie revealed her hesitations about auditioning, stemming from negative feedback regarding her appearance.
“There were so many times people told me that I wasn’t pretty enough, slim enough and I just took myself out and I was scared,”said JMarie.
Receiving unanimous support from the judges, JMarie earned her golden ticket to the next stage. Following her was Zaylie Windsor, an 18-year-old singer-songwriter who impressed the judges with an original composition, reminiscent of a young Taylor Swift. Zaylie also secured 2 affirmative votes and her golden ticket to advance.
Two 17-year-olds, Nikki Rodrigues and Caroline Brett, both shone brightly, winning the judges’ approval with their performances. Kaleo Knight, hailing from Los Angeles, showcased her Hawaiian and Japanese roots with a rendition of Jennifer Hudson’s powerful “And I Am Telling You,”initially a risky choice that ultimately led to a standing ovation from the judges.
Commenting on her performance, Luke Bryan praised Kaleo, “It’s something a 16-year-old should definitely be proud of. Probably the best 16-year-old voice we’ve heard in this competition.”
Landynn, a contestant from a small South Carolina town with a poignant backstory, performed Bonnie Raitt’s “I Can’t Make You Love Me.”His journey included overcoming abandonment and embracing the power of music in his life after being adopted. The judges responded favorably, sending him through to the next stage of the competition.
The episode featured further contestants such as Gabe James, Lexi Tieffel, and Ethan Senger, all securing three affirmative votes, while Anna Aistova faced elimination with three negative votes. The final golden tickets were awarded to several contestants, including Trenton Wright, Olivier, and others, rounding out the group heading into the next challenges.
In a humorous intermission, Perfect Match star Kariselle Snow appeared to lighten the mood, as contestants playfully nicknamed Carrie Underwood “Scary Underwear.”The episode concluded with Canaan from Dallas, a talented vocalist from a gospel-singing family. Having graduated high school early and preparing for a preaching career, Canaan wowed the judges with his “powerful and spectacular”performance and garnered the third and final platinum ticket of the season, allowing him to skip the first round of competition in Hollywood.
