Ray J’s Children: A Look at the Singer’s Family Amid Police Incident with Princess Love During Divorce

R&B artist Ray J, known for his hit song “One Wish,”recently encountered legal troubles stemming from a domestic dispute with his estranged wife, Princess Love. The couple, who share two children, Melody and Epik, experienced a dramatic incident on March 13 when Ray J was briefly detained following a confrontation about their ongoing divorce proceedings.

According to a report from TMZ on March 15, the altercation escalated after Ray’s return home from a tour. Princess Love contacted the Los Angeles Police Department, expressing concerns about Ray’s aggressive behavior and apparent intoxication. In response to a report of domestic violence, LAPD officers arrived at their residence and placed Ray J in handcuffs, transporting him to the back of a police vehicle for questioning.

After assessing the situation and interviewing both Ray and Love, officers subsequently released him without any charges, as there was no evidence supporting claims of criminal conduct.

Upon his release, Ray J was recorded expressing gratitude to the officers for their handling of the situation, stating:

“I know it’s okay…Y’all did everything y’all could.”

He continued with,

“I’m happy that you guys handled it.”

An Overview of Ray J and Princess Love’s Divorce Journey

Ray J and Princess Love tied the knot in 2016, welcoming their first child, daughter Melody Love Norwood, in May 2018. The couple appeared to share a happy family moment at the 2019 BET Soul Train Music Awards; however, tensions escalated shortly thereafter. Princess Love claimed that Ray J left her and their daughter “stranded”in Las Vegas during a trip, blocking her number while she was over eight months pregnant with their second child.

During an Instagram Live in November 2019, Ray J disputed Love’s allegations, but she nonetheless hinted at filing for divorce by commenting from their daughter’s Instagram account:

“Filing for divorce when I get back to LA.”

The couple welcomed their son, Epik Ray Norwood, in January 2020. However, whispers of Ray J’s infidelity surfaced, leading to strain in their relationship. In May 2020, Love filed for divorce but later retracted her decision. By September, Ray J initiated another divorce filing, which was dismissed in March 2021. In a twist, Love filed again in October 2021, which remained pending until Ray suggested they reconcile in March 2023.

In February 2024, Princess Love officially filed for divorce, stating through an Instagram post,

“After much reflection, discussion, and counseling, we have come to the difficult realization that our paths have diverged, and it is in the best interest of both of us to part ways.”

She assured fans that they would continue to co-parent their children despite the split. However, in September of the previous year, a verbal confrontation allegedly escalated to the point where their children felt frightened. Following this incident, Ray J posted a video to reassure Melody and Epik that he and Love maintained a cordial relationship.

Despite these reassurances, Princess Love later accused Ray J of emotionally manipulating their children, leading to discussions around their well-being and the nature of their relationship. The circumstances surrounding Ray J’s recent police encounter remain unclear.
