Insights from Prue Leith: A Glimpse into Her Culinary Preferences and Daily Meals
Prue Leith, a well-known judge on The Great American Baking Show, recently shared her thoughts on various culinary topics in an engaging video with Delish, released on April 24, 2025. During the discussion, she highlighted a particular American breakfast dish that she believes surpasses its UK counterpart.
“I think, generally, Americans do breakfast better than we do. Eating breakfast in a diner in New York is a great pleasure. And the thing I love about American breakfast is that I think you make the best Eggs Benedict. Much better than the French, for example,”she stated.
Despite her appreciation for American breakfast, Prue admitted that she is not particularly fond of the morning meal itself. In fact, she considers breakfast to be her least favorite meal of the day, often skipping it due to a tendency to overeat even when she isn’t hungry. Nonetheless, she acknowledged a fondness for hotel buffets, where she enjoys yogurt, granola, and fresh fruit.
Prue Leith’s Morning Rituals
Prue elaborated on her morning routine, explaining that her day begins with a cup of tea. She prefers decaffeinated tea made with cow’s milk, though she is open to oat and almond milk for her coffee. Interestingly, the only time she prepares breakfast is for the entire family.
“When the whole family is around, I make a good old-fashioned British fry-up. Sausage, bacon, fried bread, mushrooms, eggs—everything I can find,”Prue shared.
Lunchtime Favorites: The Soup Habit
When it comes to lunch, Prue is a fan of homemade soups, as she describes herself as a “terrible leftover cook”who loathes wasting food. This often leads her to whip up an “amorphous green soup”made from whatever green vegetables she has on hand. Her husband, however, is not a fan of this dish.
Offering insights into her cooking philosophy, Prue revealed that she has never ordered take-out or pre-packaged meals, believing in preparing everything from scratch. The only exception she makes is for pizza, as she finds them “delicious.”She also mentioned her enjoyment of Nando’s grilled chicken, specifically chicken thighs.
“I like Nando’s. I just like their grilled chicken, and I prefer the thigh,”she stated.
Snacking: A Rare Occurrence
During the video, Prue also expressed her views on snacking. She stated that she “almost never”engages in snacking between meals, criticizing the practice for diminishing one’s appetite.
“I think what snacks do is take the edge off your appetite. Not enough to stop you eating the next thing, but enough to stop you enjoying it as much as you would,”she explained.
Dinner: Prue’s Favorite Meal

Unlike her feelings about breakfast, Prue truly enjoys dinner. She has a penchant for preparing French Cassoulet when time allows, while her husband prefers a well-cooked steak, particularly a “perfectly rare”rib-eye. The couple also enjoys dining at pubs, where they treat themselves to classic fare like sausages, ham, and chips.
On the topic of desserts, Prue prefers to keep her home a “cake-free zone”due to health reasons. Her go-to dessert is yogurt topped with various options, which she considers a healthier alternative.
