The Power Rangers franchise has long hinted at a multiverse, and the time is ripe for a live-action adaptation inspired by Marvel’s Secret Wars. While the concept of alternate dimensions was first touched upon during the Power Rangers R.P.M. series, it never fully delved into multiversal themes, often only referencing them to address inconsistencies in the storyline. The differing universes of R.P.M. and Dino Charge highlight how some series needed to be recontextualized into separate continuities.
It wasn’t until 2016 that Power Rangers thoroughly embraced its multiverse concept, primarily through a groundbreaking series of comic books published by BOOM! Studios. These comics have revitalized interest in the franchise with their ambitious narratives weaving together multiple characters and timelines in an epic crossover. As talks of a Power Rangers reboot on Disney+ circulate, now is the ideal moment to bring the Shattered Grid storyline to life.
Disney+’s Power Rangers Reboot: The Perfect Opportunity for a Shattered Grid Adaptation
Power Rangers’ Multiverse-Ending Event Deserves A Live-Action Adaptation

The Shattered Grid arc stands out as one of the most exhilarating narratives within the Power Rangers universe. This storyline not only celebrates various Power Rangers teams and settings but also showcases the vast potential inherent in this franchise. Despite Power Rangers’ long-standing association with Mighty Morphin, the series has evolved over 30 years, introducing a plethora of teams and powers. In retrospect, the idea of different Power Rangers eras uniting through the multiverse and time travel seems like an obvious direction to explore.
The late Jason David Frank’s portrayal of Lord Drakkon in a live-action trailer for Shattered Grid exemplifies the storyline’s draw and appeal.
Shattered Grid transcended mere fan service, diving deeply into the essence of heroism by exploring the character of Tommy Oliver, ultimately reinventing one of the franchise’s most iconic figures. The outcome was the emergence of Lord Drakkon, a character new to the screens yet already celebrated as a formidable villain. A live-action adaptation of Shattered Grid has always been a dream of mine; however, executing it within the confines of traditional Power Rangers series may present challenges. Hence, the forthcoming Disney+ series provides a perfect platform to realize this vision.
If Power Rangers’ New Show Is Mighty Morphin, It Should Adapt Stories From The Comics
The Comics Have Vastly Expanded The Power Rangers Lore

While the details surrounding the new Power Rangers show’s direction—whether a reboot of Mighty Morphin or an entirely different approach—remain unclear, it would be a missed opportunity not to incorporate beloved storylines from the comics. Shattered Grid may be exceptional, but it’s just one piece of a much larger narrative tapestry crafted by BOOM! Studios.
Even if the series opts not to directly adapt specific comic storylines, elements from BOOM! Studios should certainly make their way to the screen. This could include characters like Lord Drakkon and Ranger Slayer, along with exciting lore enhancements such as the shared origins of Lord Zedd and Zordon. The high bar set by the comics reflects an exciting promise for Power Rangers, and fans are hopeful that the new series can reach or surpass that standard.
