Police Halt Inquiry into Japanese Woman Accused of Kissing Jin During BTS’ Festa 2024

According to a report from South Korea’s Yonhap News on March 31, 2025, the investigation concerning allegations of harassment against Jin, a member of the globally renowned K-pop group BTS, has been officially halted. The Songpa Police Station in Seoul stated that the inquiry is currently paused as they are unable to question the suspects involved.

The incident in question involves two Japanese women who allegedly kissed Jin without his consent during the BTS Festa 2024, which was held on June 13, 2024, at the Jamsil Indoor Stadium in Seoul. This event took place just a day after Jin’s military discharge and was part of BTS’s celebrations for their 11th anniversary.

In a unique experience, 1,000 fans were selected to receive a free hug from Jin, during which a woman unexpectedly kissed him on the cheek without permission, igniting considerable online backlash.

A formal complaint led to a police probe commencing on July 14, 2024. By January 2025, investigators had identified a primary suspect, a Japanese woman in her 50s, who was summoned for questioning in February under South Korean laws pertaining to sexual offenses. Unfortunately, details regarding her current location remain elusive.

During the investigation, law enforcement officials discovered that another woman was also involved in similar actions at the event, and attempts to locate her have been unsuccessful as well. Under South Korean law, investigations can be suspended if a suspect’s whereabouts are unknown. Authorities affirmed that they would continue the investigation once the second suspect is found and available for questioning.

“We plan to resume the investigation as soon as Mr. A appears,”a police official stated.

Jin himself was called in by the authorities as a victim in this case. Reports indicate that more attendees had attempted similar behaviors, with at least one individual sharing their experience on social media, which subsequently escalated the attention towards the incidents. At present, the case remains inactive pending further updates.
