Despite being seven years since it launched on mobile devices, Pokemon Go still has a massive community of players around the world who log in every day to catch ’em all and battle with friends. A big reason is the events that Niantic hosts in the game.
As well as the monthly Community Days and weekly Spotlight Hours that focus on a specific Pokemon, there are always themed events that celebrate everything from Halloween to new mainline Pokemon games like Scarlet & Violet being released.

Pokemon Go New Year’s 2024 (January 1 – 3)
Pokemon Go is ringing in the New Year by adding more adorable costumed creatures like Jigglypuff and Wigglytuff wearing ribbons. You can also encounter more Pokemon wearing party hats in celebration.
Lustrous Odyssey (January 6 – 10)
Lustrous Odyssey will mark the debut of Dusk Form Lycanroc in Pokemon Go. Previously, players could only evolve Rockruff into the Midnight and Midday forms of Lycanroc.
Rowlet Community Day (January 6)
The January 2024 Community Day headliner is none other than the Grass starter Pokemon Rowlet. During that time, trainers will have an increased chance of encountering Shiny Rowlet in the wild or from Research tasks.
Dazzling Dream (January 13 – 16)
Dazzling Dream will mark the debut of Shiny Cutiefly and feature several other Fairy-types as wild encounters.
Raging Battles (January 19 – 24)
The Raging Battles event will mark the debut of the Generation 9 Pokemon Annihilape. You can also find creatures like Throh, Sawk, and Scraggy more frequently in the wild.
Porygon Community Day Classic (January 20)
While Rowlet is the Community Day headliner for January 6, the mobile game will feature Porygon for the Community Day Classic on January 20.
Taken Treasure (January 27 – February 1)
Taken Treasure will mark the debut of Varoom and Revavroom in addition to an opportunity to face Shadow Kyogre on Giovanni’s team.
Unannounced event (January 27 – 28)
Additionally, an unannounced event will take place in Pokemon Go from January 27 to January 28. Time will only tell what the mystery festivities could entail.
Pokemon Go January 2024 Spotlight Hours
Spotlight Hours are some of the most popular Pokemon Go events.
There are five Spotlight Hours to look forward to in Pokemon Go this month, which we’ve listed below alongside their bonuses:
- January 2 – Castform with double Catch XP
- January 9 – Eevee with double Catch Candy
- January 16 – Ralts with double Transfer Candy
- January 23 – Barboach with double Evolve XP
- January 30 – Foongus with double Catch Stardust.
Spotlight Hours take place every Tuesday from 6 pm to 7 pm local time. Prepare for them by stocking up on Poke Balls and clearing out your Pokemon storage.

Pokemon Go January 2024 Raid Hours
Taking part in Raid Hours is a great way to catch Legendaries.
There are four Raid Hours to look forward to in Pokemon Go this month, which we’ve listed below:
- January 3 – Buzzwole, Xurkitree, and Pheromosa
- January 10 – Tornadus (Therian Forme)
- January 17 – Thundurus (Therian Forme)
- January 24 – Landorus (Therian Forme)
Raid Hours take place every Wednesday from 6 pm to 7 pm local time. During this hour, the featured Pokemon will appear more frequently in Raid Battles at Gyms.

Pokemon Go January 2024 Research Breakthrough
Research Breakthroughs feature a new reward each month.
There are six potential Research Breakthrough rewards for January 2024: Lapras, Galarian Weezing, Galarian Mr. Mime, Furfrou, Goomy, and Jangmo-o. You’ll be given one of these Pokemon encounters at random.
To earn a Research Breakthrough, you’ll need to complete seven Field Research tasks during January. If you complete one every day, you could earn up to four encounters during the month.
