Overwatch 2 players are slamming Season 9’s Competitive Points changes as Golden weapons become harder to obtain.
As Season 9 fast approaches in under a week, the devs have been revealing what is to come, and it’s a lot. From a teased collaboration with Cowboy Bebop to the plethora of meta shakeups and even a Pharah rework.
Undoubtedly Season 9’s biggest addition is the massive overhaul to its Competitive system, changing up players’ rank placements and progression, a mass rank reset, and even a new rank to boot.
And one of the changes coming with it is to the Competitive points system, with a completely new feature coming with the overhaul. Though it appears some players aren’t happy about the change.

With the Competitive overhaul, Competitive points gained from Season 8 and before will be converted to Legacy Competitive points, of which you can purchase Golden weapons.
The points you get from playing Competitive in Season 9 onwards will still be Competitive points. However, if you want to earn more Legacy Points to spend, you need to wait until the end of the competitive year for your collected Competitive points to convert to Legacy points.
This means if you currently don’t have enough points to redeem a golden gun you’ve been eyeing, you’ll need to wait until the end of the year to redeem it, even if you’ve collected enough points mid-year, as many players pointed out.

And this confusing change has seen players slamming the decision. A player on the Overwatch subreddit made a post decrying the problems of the incoming point system, saying, “Why can’t you just convert the new competitive currency to the legacy currency whenever you want?”
Another member questioned the change, “Why can’t we just keep the normal Comp points and just have the Jade weapons as a second option next to the Gold weapons? Why do I have to wait a year to get Gold weapons at all?”
