“Nine Perfect Strangers” Cast Share Insights on Nicole Kidman’s Commitment to Her Role: “Thrilling Yet Intimidating”

Nine Perfect Strangers Returns: A Fresh Season in the Alps

After a nearly four-year hiatus, Nicole Kidman reprises her role as the enigmatic guru Masha in the highly anticipated second season of Nine Perfect Strangers. This new installment transports audiences to the breathtaking snowy Alps, where a new group of wellness seekers—featuring talents such as Christine Baranski, Henry Golding, Murray Bartlett, Annie Murphy, Mark Strong, King Princess, and Dolly de Leon—arrives at Masha’s retreat.

Kidman’s Vision for Season Two

At the Los Angeles premiere of the series, Kidman, who also takes on the role of executive producer, shared insights into the show’s evolution. She admitted that she had not initially envisioned a second season, especially one not directly adapted from Liane Moriarty’s original novel. “The first season was a wonderful surprise in terms of its success,”Kidman recounted to The Hollywood Reporter. “When Hulu expressed their eagerness for a continuation, I thought, ‘How could that happen?’ That’s where our journey began.”

The Allure of Character Depth

Kidman expressed her excitement about the new cast, emphasizing the importance of creating distinct arcs for each character. “We have one of the best ensembles for this season, and balancing their powerful performances while giving each their moment was a thrilling challenge,”she noted.

Maintaining the Masha Mystique

One intriguing aspect of production is Kidman’s commitment to staying in character as Masha while on set. Bruna Papandrea, the executive producer, elaborated on this approach: “Nicole refrains from meeting the new cast members before filming begins; she enters as Masha, fostering a sense of anticipation.”

Murray Bartlett added to this sentiment, saying that when on set, “Masha is present, not Nicole, which is an exhilarating experience—albeit a bit daunting. But this dynamic was beneficial for all of us, deepening our immersion into the story.” Mark Strong humorously recalled how Kidman would “waft in and out”of character, creating an enchanting atmosphere that kept the cast engaged.

A Balancing Act of Friendship and Role

Henry Golding noted the initial challenge of maintaining the Masha persona. “Nicole aimed to stay in character at first, but our friendly interactions eventually encouraged her to join us,”he explained. “While she brings an exciting aura, it’s her friendships that help ground us during filming.”

Kidman’s Passion for the Role

During a brief Q&A session post-premiere, the actress articulated her enthusiasm for returning to the series despite her packed schedule. “I love embodying Masha; she exudes power, unlike many of the emotionally fragile characters I often portray,”Kidman expressed. “Being the orchestrator of this captivating group is incredibly appealing.”
