Overview of Upcoming Features in World of Warcraft
- World of Warcraft is set to introduce a new user interface banner designed for seamless switching between Classic Era game modes.
- Players will have options such as Season of Discovery, Hardcore, and the 20th Anniversary realms.
- This feature is intended to enhance the gaming experience by simplifying transitions between various game modes.
World of Warcraft is enhancing its user interface with a new banner that allows players to easily switch between different Classic Era game modes while logged in. This innovation mirrors the character select screen banner found in the modern game, significantly streamlining the process of changing between Classic Era modes.
The diverse playing options available in World of Warcraft Classic are categorized into two primary groups: progression and Classic Era. Progression is currently shifting from WoW: Cataclysm Classic to Mists of Pandaria, while Classic Era boasts multiple options, including Season of Discovery, Hardcore, and the relished 20th Anniversary realms.
To simplify the experience, World of Warcraft is developing a system that facilitates gamers in switching between various Classic Era game modes. A recent update to the Season of Discovery Phase 8 Public Test Realm revealed a new banner at the top of the character select screen. This feature introduces menu options for Modes, Shop, and Menu, echoing the functionality seen in the game’s modern version. Players can now conveniently toggle between the original Classic Era, Hardcore, Season of Discovery, and respective Hardcore realms linked to the 20th Anniversary.
Introducing the Game Mode Button in Classic Era

Currently, switching game modes is possible but not as user-friendly. Players must navigate through the Change Realm button, select the desired section—be it Seasonal, Anniversary, or Classic Era—and finally choose their World of Warcraft server, which can be cumbersome as Hardcore realms are interspersed within these categories. An alternative method involves logging out and selecting the game mode through the Battle.net launcher.

It’s essential to highlight that this new UI feature will not function with progression realms, which require a distinct installation compared to Classic Era. However, there is potential for introducing additional Classic Era options in the future, including possible successors to Season of Discovery or even a Classic+. The transition of 20th Anniversary realms into The Burning Crusade by late 2025 or early 2026 will further influence how this feature evolves.
While this new system has not been officially confirmed by Blizzard, its integration seems likely, particularly with the impending launch of World of Warcraft Classic Season of Discovery Phase 8, scheduled for April 8.
