Star Wars: Legion Expands with New Starter Sets
Fans of the Star Wars universe and tabletop gaming can rejoice as Star Wars: Legion introduces new Starter Sets, offering an accessible entry point for newcomers. Initially launched in 2018, this miniatures skirmish game enables players to craft armies from five unique factions, spanning two distinct eras. Earlier in the year, Atomic Mass Games, the game’s designer, began releasing redesigned core models for each army, bringing them to life with hard plastic and vibrant new poses. These new Starter Sets, featuring a collection of resculpted miniatures, are set to be released soon.
Announced at Adepticon, the upcoming Starter Sets will represent four of Star Wars: Legion’s five armies: the Rebel Alliance, Empire, Separatist Alliance, and Galactic Republic. Each set includes over 35 distinct miniatures at an affordable price of $95, empowering players to build formidable armies. These sets provide roughly 600 points worth of units, meeting approximately 60% of the requirements for a standard 1,000-point battle. The initial releases for the Rebel Alliance and Empire are scheduled for this summer, to be followed by the Separatists and the Galactic Republic.

What Each Set Includes

Each Starter Set contains all the essentials needed to start playing Star Wars: Legion, including key gameplay components such as movement tools, dice, markers, and unit cards. While the contents may vary from set to set, each package includes:
Rebel Alliance | Empire | Galactic Republic | Separatist Alliance |
---|---|---|---|
Luke Skywalker | Darth Vader | Obi-Wan Kenobi | General Grievous |
22 Rebel Troopers | 22 Storm Troopers | 22 Clone Troopers | 30 B1 Battle Droids |
6 Wookie Warriors | 14 Scout Troopers | 7 ARC Troopers | 2 Droidekas |
7 Rebel Commandos | 7 ARF Troopers | 6 B2 Super Battle Droids |
Choosing a faction is essential as each army provides a unique approach to combat. The Rebel Alliance excels at securing objectives and showcases numerous heroes, while the Empire boasts resilient units. The Separatists can amass sizable armies composed of battle droids, whereas the Galactic Republic benefits from various stackable buffs. Despite their differing strengths and weaknesses, no army overwhelmingly dominates competitive play, promoting a balanced gaming experience.
Our Perspective: Why These Starter Sets Are Ideal for Newcomers
Perfect Pricing for Beginners

Star Wars: Legion is a captivating miniatures game brimming with options and diverse miniatures across its various factions. While its scope is narrower compared to Warhammer 40K, the game is more inviting for newcomers due to its smaller army sizes.
The new Starter Sets present an outstanding opportunity for anyone interested in entering the miniatures gaming scene, especially with the revised ruleset and streamlined assembly of the new models. If you’re passionate about the Star Wars franchise and looking to dive into the world of miniatures, Star Wars: Legion is an excellent choice to consider.
