The recent release of the highly anticipated Star Wars: Tales of the Underworld TV series rekindles the desire to see Obi-Wan Kenobi reconnect with another significant character from his past. As a pivotal figure throughout the Skywalker saga, Obi-Wan has witnessed notable moments, from training Anakin Skywalker before his descent into darkness, to fighting valiantly in the Clone Wars and mentoring Anakin’s children, Luke Skywalker and Leia Organa. Throughout his life, Obi-Wan crossed paths with numerous allies and adversaries, often encountering them again.
Obi-Wan’s history includes memorable reunions with Darth Vader during both the Obi-Wan Kenobi series and the original Star Wars film. His intense rivalry with Darth Maul, initiated in Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace, evolved through Star Wars: The Clone Wars and concluded in Star Wars Rebels. Additionally, the series once contemplated a reunion between Obi-Wan and Clone Commander Cody in Obi-Wan Kenobi. Among these connections, there is one particularly dynamic relationship that sparks curiosity: his interactions with Asajj Ventress during the Clone Wars. The airing of Tales of the Underworld deepens this intrigue.
The Intriguing Dynamic of Obi-Wan & Asajj Ventress

While Obi-Wan’s brief romance with the Mandalorian Duchess Satine Kryze is noteworthy, the undeniable charm of his rivalry-turned-ally dynamic with former Sith assassin Asajj Ventress truly captivates the audience. Their initial encounter was marked by clear opposition, as Ventress served Count Dooku, actively engaging in the dark arts of the Force to hunt and kill Jedi.
However, upon her betrayal by Dooku, Ventress transformed into a character seeking her own path. Interestingly, she and Obi-Wan later found common ground in their shared mission to eliminate Count Dooku. Their relationship, infused with flirtation and witty banter, adds layers to their interactions. Obi-Wan openly acknowledges his attraction to Ventress, who reciprocates with her own teasing remarks.
At the time, they were true adversaries. Ventress has now seemingly shifted towards the light, having appeared in Star Wars: The Bad Batch and is expected to be featured in Tales of the Underworld. This raises the question: how would Obi-Wan perceive her transformation? The anticipation builds, leaving fans eager to explore the possibilities of their reunion.
Asajj Ventress: A Former Adobe to Jedi

During the Dark Times, a potential link between Obi-Wan and Asajj Ventress emerges. The trailer for Tales of the Underworld reveals that Ventress participated in the Hidden Path, an underground network devoted to smuggling Jedi and others away from the Empire’s grasp. This concept was initially introduced in Obi-Wan Kenobi and later explored in the video game Star Wars Jedi: Survivor.
Moreover, Quinlan Vos, Ventress’s former lover and a Jedi, also joins the Hidden Path. Obi-Wan fortuitously encountered Vos’s name etched on a wall during a mission with Leia. Their love story is entangled with tragedy and valor, with Obi-Wan playing a crucial role in uniting the two through a challenging assignment to eliminate Dooku.

The Reality of a Ventress & Obi-Wan Reunion

As much as I yearn for a reunion between Asajj Ventress and Obi-Wan Kenobi, the practicalities of their circumstances make it unlikely. Despite the Hidden Path’s potential as a narrative bridge, it contradicts Obi-Wan’s later life. Following the events of Obi-Wan Kenobi, he retreated to Tatooine and remained there, only venturing out when a grown Princess Leia summoned him for assistance. His next appearance in canon occurs in Star Wars Rebels, just before A New Hope.
Though Star Wars often revisits Tatooine, it’s challenging to justify Asajj Ventress’s presence on that isolated planet. Even if she’s part of the Hidden Path, a reunion would feel contrived, given that Obi-Wan likely lacks the means to support her quest.
While the desire to witness Obi-Wan meet the evolved version of Asajj Ventress is strong, it appears improbable to unfold in Star Wars: Tales of the Underworld, if at all.
