Excitement Grows as a New Era for My Hero Academia Begins

The Netflix Anime account has specifically noted the US and Canada as available regions for the film’s streaming. Fans can anticipate further clarification on additional locations where the film will be available in the near future. This information may also shed light on regions where the film won’t be airing on Netflix.

Considering the extensive theatrical release both domestically in Japan and internationally, it is likely that My Hero Academia: You’re Next will soon provide global streaming access. The film’s immense popularity and critical acclaim, particularly for its compelling antagonist, Dark Might, who serves as a significant contrast to the protagonist Izuku “Deku” Midoriya, suggests high demand among fans.

This new installment made its debut in Japanese theaters on August 2, 2024, achieving remarkable success by grossing approximately 895 million yen (around US$6.28 million) within its first three days, selling over 608,500 tickets and securing the top position at the Japanese box office. In the US, it earned just above US$3 million during its opening weekend, screening in both the original Japanese version with English subtitles and an English dubbed version.

Directed by Tensai Okamura at the animation studio BONES, the film boasts the involvement of original manga creator Kohei Horikoshi as a general supervisor and character designer. The production team includes familiar faces from the acclaimed anime series, such as scriptwriter Yosuke Kuroda, character designer Yoshihiko Umakoshi, and composer Yuki Hayashi. The film features music by Vaundy, who performs both the theme song “Homunculus” and the ending theme “Gift.”

The original My Hero Academia manga, created by Horikoshi, first appeared in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump in July 2014, concluding in August 2024 after a successful run of 431 chapters compiled into 42 volumes, all of which are available or forthcoming in English. Fans of the series can also look forward to the eighth and final season of the mainline television anime set to premiere in October 2025.
