Minecraft’s End Update Delay: Mojang Revisits the Nether for Upcoming Release

Over the years, Mojang has significantly enhanced the Nether and Overworld dimensions in Minecraft, which has led to some imbalance when it comes to features in these realms compared to the End dimension. This disparity has sparked discussions within the gaming community, with many players hoping for a dedicated End update. However, recent developments suggest that such an update might be postponed.

The Possible Delay of the Minecraft End Update

Mojang’s New Focus on the Nether

During the recent Minecraft Live 2025, Mojang surprised fans by unveiling two new variants of the ghast, along with a dried ghast block and a ghast harness for the upcoming game drop. This announcement caught many off guard, especially since the last significant update for the Nether was in 2020.

The focus on the Nether suggests that Mojang is prioritizing updates related to this dimension. With a specific theme expected in each game drop, it appears the emphasis on ghasts and other Nether features could further delay potential enhancements to the End realm.

Players had been hoping for news of Overworld improvements, including new mobs and seasonal elements, and many were particularly eager for insights into the much-anticipated End update. However, the lack of any mention of the End during this event implies that players may need to wait a bit longer for updates concerning that dimension.

Vibrant Visuals Project: A Shift in Priorities

Another strategic pivot from Mojang is its focus on the Vibrant Visuals project, which aims to implement significant visual enhancements across both Bedrock and Java Editions. This initiative represents the company’s first approach at integrating shaders directly into Minecraft, with the Bedrock Edition set to receive this update soon, followed by the Java Edition.

Considering that this major visual overhaul is currently a top priority for Mojang, updates to the End dimension may not be at the forefront of their developmental roadmap. As resources and attention are funneled into rendering the game visually striking, players might need to compromise on their expectations for the End update in the short term.
