Mia Wasikowska Stars Alongside Taika Waititi in Sky’s Original Film ‘Fing,’ Adapted from Popular Children’s Book

Upcoming Film Adaptation: Taika Waititi and Mia Wasikowska Star in *Fing*

In an exciting collaboration, acclaimed director Taika Waititi and actress Mia Wasikowska are set to headline the new Sky Original film inspired by David Walliams’ popular children’s book, *Fing*. This adaptation promises to capture the whimsical yet darkly humorous narrative that Walliams fans have come to love.

A Star-Studded Cast

Joining Waititi and Wasikowska in this cinematic venture are notable talents Penelope Wilton from *Downton Abbey*, Walliams himself, Richard Roxburgh (famed for his role in *Elvis*), the versatile actress Robyn Nevin, and Blake Harrison, known for his performance in *The Inbetweeners*. Also introduced in this film is newcomer Iona Bell, who plays the role of Myrtle, the central character’s darling daughter.

The Intriguing Plot

The story centers around the dedicated librarians, Mr. and Mrs. Meek, portrayed by Harrison and Wasikowska. Their daughter, Myrtle (played by Bell), is perpetually unsatisfied and yearns for something extraordinary—a Fing. In their determination to please her, the Meeks embark on a thrilling quest through the darkest parts of the jungle, hoping to fulfill Myrtle’s unusual wish. However, they soon discover that Fing is as chaotic and wild as Myrtle herself. Compounding their challenges is the villainous The Viscount, a role that promises to showcase Waititi’s flair for eccentric characters, who is intent on capturing this rare creature for himself.

Production Details

This ambitious film is a co-production between King Bert Productions in the U.K. and Story Bridge Films in Queensland, Australia. Sky has actively developed and co-financed the project alongside other partners, including STAN and AGC Studios, the latter of which will also manage global sales.

Theatrical Release Plans

For viewers in Australia and New Zealand, Transmission Films will be responsible for the theatrical release, while Stan will debut the film as a Stan Original on its streaming platform. The project counts Julia Stuart and Andrew Orr from Sky, along with Walliams and Shana Levine, among its executive producers.

About the Author and Director’s Vision

David Walliams is a literary phenomenon, having sold over 60 million copies of his books translated into 55 languages since his debut. His 2019 publication, *Fing*, has been well-received and will now come to life on the big screen. Waititi expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “When I received the script, David’s distinctive and quirky humor leapt from the pages. *Fing* possesses a blend of dark humor and edge that I’m eager to explore through the character of the eccentric Viscount.”

As audiences await this unique film adaptation, the combination of Waititi’s innovative storytelling and Walliams’ imaginative narrative is sure to create a memorable cinematic experience.
