Blumhouse TV Appoints Melissa Aouate as New President
Blumhouse Television has announced the appointment of Melissa Aouate as its new president, taking over from Chris McCumber, who departed the position in October 2023. Prior to Aouate’s appointment, Jason Gold, the president of production at Blumhouse TV, served as the interim president.
Leadership Structure Changes
Moving forward, Gretchen Palek will continue to manage Blumhouse TV’s unscripted division as the head of alternative television. Meanwhile, Rob Hackett remains in charge of television for Atomic Monster, which functions as a distinct entity under the Blumhouse brand. This restructuring follows the merger of Jason Blum’s Blumhouse and James Wan’s Atomic Monster in 2024, a collaboration known for producing successful projects like Insidious, M3GAN, and Night Swim.
Upcoming Projects
Blumhouse TV is currently behind several notable productions, including the recently released film The Bondsman featuring Kevin Bacon and the highly anticipated Scarpetta series, starring Nicole Kidman and Jamie Lee Curtis, which will be available on Amazon Prime Video. Additionally, the company is responsible for strengthening its presence on platforms like Showtime with The Good Lord Bird and HBO with Sharp Objects.
Aouate’s Impressive Background
Before joining Blumhouse, Aouate spent nine years at Fabel Entertainment as president and partner. Under her leadership, Fabel earned recognition for producing acclaimed series like Bosch and Brilliant Minds for NBC.
Vision for Blumhouse TV
Expressing enthusiasm for her new role, Aouate stated, “Blumhouse has built one of the most innovative brands in film with bold, visceral storytelling that resonates with all kinds of audiences. It’s a big tent that prioritizes creative risk-taking and always puts the viewer first. I couldn’t be more excited to lead the effort to expand on that sensibility for television.”
Abhijay Prakash, the president of Blumhouse, praised Aouate’s appointment, saying, “We’re incredibly fortunate to have found Melissa to lead Blumhouse’s scripted television division. Melissa brings exceptional taste and an impressive track record of success with both edgy and mainstream fare, as we continue to grow our slate of ongoing scripted series.”
Prior to her tenure at Fabel, Aouate gained valuable experience as a literary agent at ICM Partners, further enriching her credentials in the industry.
